Flawed logic indeed. I questioned it when we drafted him. At the time I wasn't a big Carpenter fan but didn't understand why would they spend all that FA money and put it all on the foot of a rookie kicker.
He missed 8 of is last 24 kicks. Not very good. Thats 24 points we didn't make, could have been 5 wins. Lets say he only missed 4, we are in the playoffs.
That reason alone should get Ireland fired. Its like buying a ferrari and giving the keys to a 16 year old. That Philbin et al went along with that strategy should have them answering a ton of questions too. I would have told Ireland to fire me if he's going to give me a rookie kicker with a playoff or bust year.
Happy New Year.

At least tell us which 5 games we lost due to Sturgis missing kicks.

Look at the scores man.

OK, he missed a ridiculous 57-yard attempt against the Ravens that would have tied the game. Can't blame that one on him. It should not have been that long of an attempt after Gibson's long catch. Didn't cost us the game.

Missed a 51-yarder in the first loss to Buffalo. Could make the argument that the miss cost us the game, but the Dolphins took over at the Bills 31 and lost 2 yards on the possession, forcing Sturgis to attempt a 50+ yard kick.

Missed a 46-yarder against NE when we had a 17-3 lead. Clearly, that did not cost us the game.

Missed a 53-yarder against Carolina that would have made the score 19-13 Miami. Carolina beat us 20-16. Maybe we could have moved into FG range after getting the ball back with 38 seconds on the clock and attempted a FG for a 22-20 win, but who knows.

So, I would argue Sturgis may have cost the Dolphins one win - against Buffalo. And even that one is arguable. We had a 21-20 lead before Tannehill got smoked by Mario Williams and fumbled the ball away to Buffalo. We could have had a 24-20 lead if Sturgis made his 51-yard attempt, forcing Buffalo to score a TD to beat us. Seemed like that wouldn't have been a problem the way Buffalo rammed the ball down our throats prior to the game-winning kick.

My point in this useless exercise is to point out that Sturgis had nothing to do with our season going down the tubes. This team had many more issues than a rookie kicker. I am not a huge Sturgis fan, I don't understand drafting him. But he didn't cost us 5 games.

A better thread would have been how Wheeler caused us to lose every game.....It would be a little more accurate anyway.

Or Jeff ireland...
IMHO...the oline cost us this season.

Using your analogy, could you please explain which position unit on this team would even remotely resemble a Ferrari?:ponder:

Also, why are the keys of said Ferrari the kicker's to have?:err:

Or is our offense so pathetic that our only hope is to rely on a rookie kicker to lead us?

I wasn't too happy about Carpenter.

"Marvin the Martian" Sturgis got s streaky this season.

HATE his helmet.

Sturgis cost us FIVE games? bwahahahahahahahaha.

Then we get our resident geniuses with their criticisms of the team.

Yes Sturgis was a big failure IMO this year. I think Ireland took a chance on a cheaper and younger kicker and OL and it backfired majorly.
