Subtle themes emerge after Miami’s cardiac victory over the Raiders

Hugo I think that was a far and balanced article..., Ginn has not drawn the attention of the NFL yet..., we'll see how he fares when they game plan to shut him down...

He is stronger and much more confident..., most of all the coaching staff appear to have more confidence in him... Chad obviously has more confidence in him throwing 4 and 5 and Ginn actually took a good lick...

RB was bound to fumble eventually..., and well it didn't cost us the game..., ST will cost us a game or two because we don't have the horses to make up the 10- 14 point difference...

Hugo I look forward to reading yor article every Monday...

Thanks for the kind words!

Good point about Ginn, rev. His next stepping stone will be to overcome the double teams and bracketed coverage that will start to come his way know that he is proving to be consistent threat.

As for Ronnie, let's hope that he goes another two years or so without fumbling the football.

Indeed, it was bound to happen sometime. Totally agree with Rev about ST, they will cost us a game or 2. I don't think I've ever seen a Special Teams unit as bad as this one. There should be no reason why I close my eyes everytime we Punt or Kickoff

The OL has exceeded expectations up til now, but with the momentum turning from being a rebuilding to a contending team, you're right about it being more porous than it should be. It's too bad Thomas went down; there's no real grounds beyond exhibition season to annoint him as the RG solution, but it would have been nice to know one way or another going into the 09 draft. In a perfect world, Murphy would have been the Dutch boy's finger in the dike type stud. It would have been nice.

Nice article Hugo. Sound coaching and gameplanning do make a difference - but not enough to overcome underperformance against better teams.

I don't want to get into the fingers and dikes conversation, but I definitely think that we need to shore up this offensive line in the offseason.

We took a step in the right direction this year, but there's more work to be done in my opinion.

Now that we’ve dispensed with the obvious, let’s take a look at some subtle but key takeaways from Sunday’s win...

Please give it a quick read and let me know what you think. Thanks!
Very good as always! The line IMO was a victim of nothing but short offensive plays. If you noticed, Oakland kept bringing the safety in for run support....they were all over the swing passes and short outs. This allowed the defense of Oakland to really be able to press the line of scrimmage and get consistant pressure

you are absolutely right on that one...our OL is still a work in progress, and will only get better with 2 OL coaches on our staff...

Thanks for the compliment!

Now here's my problem with your assessment; we threw quite a few intermediate passes, and completed most of them. Also, most teams put a safety in the box against us because they key on Ronnie and Ricky.

This has been the case virtually all season long, yet despite this, the offensive line has managed to protect Pennington extremely well. Yesterday, they appeared to possibly take a step back.

We won't know for sure if this was just a one-game setback or a trend until a week or two from now.

I agree with what you say, I just think based on Oakland running a pretty aggressive defense leaving Namdi on an island the lack of down the field threats allowed Oakland and their fast linebacker to kinda cheat a little bit. We had similar issue with Baltimore. Hey, I am happy as hell and I agree with your column...it was just an observation on what i say yesterday. I have no problems with the offense at all. Some defenses will match up with us better than others. That game had me worried for that reason all Saturday. Keep up the great work
