Now that “Suck For Luck” is a full blown ordeal – there’s even a Twitter account devoted to it – it’s very amusing to see the general NFL fan’s reaction to the idea that teams might tank some games to secure the guy every analyst this side of Mel Kiper’s phallic eagle swoop is calling the next John Elway.
It’s public knowledge now that both Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay and Miami Dolphins majority owner Stephen Ross have expressed interest in acquiring Luck in the draft. So the rational school of thought for the average fan – I’d probably estimate an I.Q. of 75 – is that two teams of professional athletes, who are boisterous, arrogant and proud, will waste an entire season of their professional careers so they can put their fates in the hands of a guy from Stanford.
There are two things about this, as a Miami Dolphins fan, that crack me up:

1) Why on Earth would Tony Sparano and his coaching staff kowtow to Ross, who openly courted Jim Harbaugh to replace him? Why would Sparano fill the cupboard with elite talent only to have it handed to Bill Cowher in the spring?
2) And do you really think that Brandon Marshall would keep his mouth shut if someone told him to flop on some plays? He’d be demanding trades and stomping his feet to the point that Terrell Owens would be like, “Dude, chill.” Besides, he looked just fine flopping on his own last night.

I think the coaches are desperate and doing all they can. The players, especially on defense, tanked the season from the get go.
We need someone like Ted Thompson to take charge, evaluate the staff and players and begin to mold this collection of bad fitting parts into a football franchise.

There are no football gods...the team is being run by amateurs and incompetents. Bring in guys that know talent and things will get turned around in a hurry.

I actually believe this one. There's no way our defense should be playing like they are in their 2nd year in Nolan's system,with the same personnel,minus Clowner,and adding Burnett. I believe our defense from Nolan to all his defensive players decided that if the offense struggled and didn't pull their weight,they weren't going to carry the team like they did last year,and i can't&don't blame them at all.

I'm not accusing any one particular individual of quitting, but collectively as a team they quit last year and apparently don't have any second thoughts about it. Regardless of the talk we hear about TS still having the locker room, the play on the field says otherwise. They don't believe any more. You don't even have to punch them in the face to make them quit, a half-hearted shove will do.

I think it was Ricky who said he was watching us against the Patriots Week 1, and said after we didn't get in the end zone the first time it was like we gave up. Just last week against the Jets, we don't get in the end zone twice and have a wimpy 6-0 lead before the bull---- Revis pick six. We were done. These guys don't hang together and they don't play or fight as a team.

Whether we get the first pick or anywhere in the top few spots, a new HC/GM that values the QB position as the cornerstone of what he's trying to accomplish here will turn the page in Miami, and we can put this crap behind us.

Meanwhile, maybe we can entice Gruden to come here by honoring our in-state brothers, the Buccaneers for the SB championship. Might sell a few extra tickets, right?

Sparano and his staff aren't tanking it as their jobs are on the line. I also think Marshall isn't dogging it (on purpose) even though a few of the drops and the running out of bounds on a sure TD catch looked suspicious. Kiper and McShay were just on ESPN and they both agreed that there is little chance Luck would return to Stanford for another year. Kiper said Luck's left tackle is graduating, as is most of their key players on offense.

McShay said he could see Luck maybe "Puliing an Eli Manning," and demanding a trade if he cannot work out a deal with the team that owns the first pick. If this were to happen, though, I don't think it would be a bad thing. Teams that would be interested in moving up to get Luck, would have to offer the #1 picking team a nice deal, especially if they are not a team with a first five pick. I would be really happy with Matt Barkley and a boatload of draft picks. Luck alone won't make us a winner. We need a lot of help and maybe getting an extra 4 or 5 top picks would beat getting Luck by himself.

I don't think Marshall is dogging it, either. I think his off the field issues this past offseason and the lockout set him back. He has maturity issues to boot, so if you put a mike in front of him he will undoubtedly say something stupid/inflammatory like he did this week leading up to the jets game. He's just not ready to play football right now the way we need him to, and his stumbling out of bounds is just one example. The dropsies are further examples. He used to catch footballs if he got his hands on them, and these days they slip right through.

Will he get it together in the next month or so? Dunno. But the team may have other problems by that point.

these guys don't have to not try...the losses will come either way...but they will quit soon..this thing gets to week 10 at 0 fer they'll have thrown in the towel...which honestly is fine by me...either contend or blow chunks...i'm tired of the in between stuff every year

I don't think this fan base will have the patience for someone built like Ted Thompson. They will see a couple of mediocre seasons and start to question the "building through the draft" method and panic, just my opinion.

You're joking right? There were plenty of people on this very site who thought Ross was wrong to go out and try to replace Sparano. Who thought Sparano was a great coach. Who thought Ireland and Sparano just needed more time. That this year we would turn it around and go to the Championship game. This fan base is nothing if not patient after ten plus years of this ****.
