Mods, its just a suggestion so I understand if its not possible.

But I was thinking you guys may want to offer a 7 day trial period as a one shot deal to encourage growth in the VIP forum? Let everyone else see what theyre missing.

I work in sales and sometimes the only way to encourage growth is to get people to try the product without risk. I use it to close all the time.

Just throwing it out there as a way to increase revenue and VIP sales for you.

Matt we greatly appreciate your suggestion. We are going to keep it the same way as of right now. If members want to join VIP, and give back to the site, they will usually do it on there own, or ask an existing member already his or her take on VIP. What we don't want to see happen is that we get members in VIP membership that are not of the VIP caliber, and therefore causing problems in there.:wink:

While Boik's suggestion does have merit, you would have to work it so previewers were in read-only mode with no posting privileges.

Thats what I was going for. Obviously, Doc phrased it right. Again just a suggestion.
 
I can tell you that all of these ideas plus others have been discussed before.
We appreciate the ideas but you have to trust us to make the right decision.

I trust you guys CT. I was just trying to help because I want to see the site succeed and because I know you put a ton of effort into the site. :)

I didnt mean it like that,bro.I only meant that the idea Boik is suggesting has been considered before.

Of course we want ideas.The Premium members are the finest minds on FH and we need your ideas.This is a braintrust we can draw from.

Anytime anyone has one we want to listen to it.:D

I get it that the idea has been considered before and rejected, but FWIW I think Boik is right. With a free board that has a lot more traffic, it is hard for many to understand why they should pay for the right to use a board that has less discussion/discourse. Had I not originally been invited to VIP on "scholarship" I probably never would have joined. Maybe the way to do it is to use the VIP comp nomination process more liberally and give a larger number of people a trial membership to see what VIP is like. If a member has a few VIP supporters, he/she is unlikely to really mess up the VIP board, even if he/she has posting privileges during the trial membership. Again, I know none of these ideas are new -- just giving my input.

IF we were to do it, this would be more likely. When FFIC came up with the comp idea, VIP membership wasn't close to what it is now. The biggest variable is when do we reach a saturation point? The absolute last thing we want to happen to VIP is for it to get watered down. There is a delicate balance between raising funds for the site and keeping VIP special and not a place with too many posters lowering the level of conversation.
 
I think this issue should proceed carefully.

If the mods of this website decide to be more liberal with who they allow into the VIP area, then the VIP area very likely will eventually degenerate into what the free board has become.

I can understand the idea behind trying to get more people in the VIP. However, I see this as a quality over quantity issue. If we get too big, it will diminish the quality of the posts, IMO.

To address that I think I would encourage voting among the VIP members as to who deserves it witha limited number of comps per quarter.

I certainly see your points Keith and regardless of whether we agree or disagree on stuff I always respect what you have to say. It was because of posters like you i joined VIP. But the whole point is I probably wouldnt have joined VIP if I hadnt already seen many of yours and Boomers and CK's posts on the main board. And seeing as how a lot of VIPers stick exclusively to that board when talking dolphin football, how else is everyone going to know what theyre missing?

I certainly dont want to force the issue, and there certainly is a delicate balance between VIP quality posts and those on the main board. Just trying to give advice on whats made me successful in sales. :cooldude:

Right again - that is exactly what we're trying to avoid. People join VIP to get more level-headed intelligent football and Dolphins discussion. This is what we encourage, however, if VIP gets too big we won't have our little safe haven from what many feel has become an "out of control free for all" (if you will) in main.

BTW - this issue is raised every off-season. Therefore, we revisit it on a yearly basis. The general consensus of the staff here is that there will not, at least in the near future, be a free "preview" of VIP.

Keep the suggestions and comments coming though, guys. That's what makes finheaven the best Dolphin fan site on the internet.
