Seems every post is calling for the signing of Evan Mathis.
What happens if we sign Mathis and Suh manhandles him, as he is doing to Turner and the rest of the offensive line?

How do you gauge the ineptness of an offensive lineman or line when they are getting beat daily, by arguably the best defensive lineman in football?
And who is to say that will not change with Mathis in camp?

I don't think anyone on this team can block suh for longer than 3 seconds. but if evan can block him for 3.1 consistently I'd take it.

Nobody can block SUH 1 on 1 effectively . That's why we paid him as much as we did . Fortunately ... I the league there are only two DTs with that level of Domination .

Gerald McCoy
Geno Atkins

Here is the thing . I like the Idea of Mathis from a talent standpoint .

But I don't like the idea of Mathis from a mental standpoint .
It seems to me that all Mathis cares about is money.

He also is the type of player to talk **** about his team on twitter when he's not happy .
I hate those kind of players

To much is being made out of this issue. There are countless playoff teams who had weaknesses in the OL. When Albert is healthy the OL plays fine. I am more concerned with having a solid backup LT in case of catastrophic injury far more than two youngsters getting planted on their ass by the premiere DT in the league.

suh lines up predominantly over right guard mathis plays left guard...its not about "handling" suh its about shoring up one guard spot so that we can give extra help to the other "combo block" when possible if need be

but bottom line is you can't double interior defenders in our scheme every snap...there will be 1 on 1's...but you can limit your exposure

and that more than anything is what miami needs to do...limit the exposure

Completely against signing Mathis, unless the dust settles and he has to take less. The money rumors being thrown around are just ridiculous.

Like Mad Dog said, LT and backup LT stand as bigger concerns from my view. The young guards will have ups and downs but they will improve if our LT/C/RT remain healthy.

Maybe this isn't so much about not being able to block Suh but rather being inconsistent and unable to effectively do the job against the rest of the d line. The fact is each play in practice is graded out and we do not have access to these scores. The staff will know pretty quickly how this is shaking out from individual and team drills in full pads. Looking good in shorts and t shirts is one thing.

there was a time I put my faith in the "staff" to know more than I do. In recent years, My eyes and brain have told me things that went against what the "staff" was saying, and more often than not, the collective here at finheaven has been more right than wrong about the should've could've and would've's. I would've drafted drew brees instead of jamar fletcher. I would've signed drew brees and not culpepper. I would've drafted bolden instead of eddie moore. And those are just the draft redo's off the top of my head. Personnel management? ohhhh boy....

I would say if we knew Albert was going to come back and be healthy I would feel a little better. Unfortuntely we do not so we are looking at the possibility (percentage debatle) that Fox will be the LT with the youngsters. That doesn't exaclty make me feel that comfortable at least early in the season.

basically you are looking at the potential of having 3 weaknesses week 1...no doubt tackle is critical but if the qbs getting pressure up the middle and from the outside (like he did a lot of last year) your goose is cooked...here comes rush 4 drop 7 til the cows come home

miamis oline depth is nonexistent right now...especially those tackles in the 2 deep...horrid

It totally limits the offense like we saw in the Ravens and Bills game. I just don't see what were going to be able to do about it now, just too many sins of the past that we could not fix all in one year. LB same, guess we have to coach them up and hope for best.

there's another issue also...only brenner and walton can snap the damn ball one of them as such is gonna take up an active game day depth slot you only activate one other lineman as depth a guard tackle option

this teams gonna waste an active game day slot on a lineman who isnt even of the top 8 unless someone is snapping the rock in hiding

I think that there is a fair chance of a better option than Fox comes available around final cuts. If that happens it would be a rush to fit him in without Albert, better if Albert can go, and better in the long run. IMO, that's where some money should go. The same can be said for another OG, and both would cost less than Mathis. Way too early to give up on the OG's, just other options if things do not work.

If Mathis was to manhandle him, people would then criticize Suh and Miami for the big contract. It's not a win-win situation.
