Ndamukong Suh will become the most impactful player a Dolphins defense has ever had. Nothing less.

Watching the man responsible for blocking Suh on Saturday, his first day in pads with the Dolphins, was like watching a man flailing in the sea as wave after wave crashed on him.

On one play, Suh's power knocked guard Billy Turner in reverse so fast it was like the blocker was on ice skates, his feet slipping from under him as he fell to the ground.

"You've got to be ready for everything with him," Turner said.

Another play, Turner was surprised by Suh's speed, blocking air as Suh ran by him. Only center Mike Pouncey saved quarterback Ryan Tannehill from a sack.

"I'm so tired after those plays blocking him, I can't even trash talk, like I usually do," said Pouncey, a Pro Bowl player himself.

This isn't a condemnation of Turner, a second-year player vying to start. It's confirmation that the Dolphins bought who they thought they did in Suh, a player who says, "I go all out every play, every practice. That's how everyone gets better."

The only worry regarding Turner and other young players who face Suh daily is what coach Phil Jackson occasionally feared in practice with Michael Jordan. Jordan became so intense, so dominant, Jackson occasionally had to throw him out.

"He can destroy a young player's confidence," Jackson once said.

"How to prepare, what it takes — just watching him is an education," Phillips said.

Tannehill tells of having to change his snap count to combat Suh's speed off the ball. In fact, Suh's quickness off the ball is so notable defensive tackle C.J. Mosely asked Suh last week how he does it.

"Eleven years in the league, and I'm asking him how he gets off the ball like that — can you believe that?'' said Mosely, who also played with Suh in Detroit. "He's the quickest off the ball of anyone I've seen.

"I'm a peripheral guy, watching the ball with my [peripheral vision]. He angles his body into the ball, watching it that way. It's something to think about."

Yeah hes as advertised...we knew that when we bought him...best dt in football

Just a matter of staying healthy...gameplan wrecker and game changer...

I posted this before....but on Thurs , I saw him and MItchell reading the count and a couple times were in the backfield before the ball got to Tannehill. I looked at my buddy and just shaked my head.

I'm not worried about Suh at all. I'm just hoping he's not a one man crew and everyone else gets stalemated. YES! That can happen. We've all seen Wake and OV get handled 1 on 1 far more often than we'd like to admit. Everyone seems adamant that those two especially OV are going to put up some serious stats this year because Suh will occupy at least 2 blockers leaving everyone else 1 on 1.

Having seen some of the 1 on 1 battles in previous years I'm not entirely sure it will translate for the other DEs.

BTW, I had a dream last night where the Pats were beating Miami by 14 with 2 minutes left and the ball, and they still had Tom Brady in throwing bombs, and Suh broke Brady's leg.

I hope this isn't something you are wishing for, I hate Brady as much as the next fan but I don't want to see him get his leg broken.

Even great DEs get blocked a lot -- if not they'd destroy the RB or QB every play.

That said, Suh brings SUCH DOMINANCE to the interior it automatically opens the edges more.

I'd like to see Coyle do some "interesting" things to help Wake take advantage of his speed and playmaking... No need to line up and do the same thing play after play with these dudes.

For example -- imagine what really good D coach (like say Ryan) would do with this group!

Just a thought.

I didn't care about that Cheating Girl breaking his leg, actually it was scary that our Dolphins were losing by 14 points with only 2 minutes left!!!! That would be a shame!!!

Ask Junc, he knows a lot about his old coach's defense. . . J/K he doesn't understand such matters. :rimshot:

Anyways, with Rex Ryan's defenses the DL's do little stunting and when they do they are simple angle stunts as opposed to looping. Most of the "interesting" things comes from the LB & DB corp. He likes to use overload blitzes where the offense can not account for the extra rusher.

Example: Offense in a simple shotgun formation. 3 wide, offset back.

Ryan could choose to defend this with a dime package (3-2-6), man coverage and a fire zone blitz forcing the RB to handle two rushers.

Both DT's will be lined up in the 3 tech (outside shoulder of the guard) and the DE in the 9 (outside shoulder of the TE). The Dime DB is blitzing weak side and if the RB doesn't release, who's being keyed by the SS that is also in the box, will also blitz looping outside the Dime DB and someone is getting to the QB. Meanwhile, to occupy inside blockers, the WLB will loop inside the A+ gap and the Mike has pass coverage on the TE.

Despite the pressure on the QB here, Ryan is essentially only rushing 4.

So after they hauled his brokenazz off, did we win?
