Dolphins set to cut Harrington, Mckinney, Anderson, and Carter by 3/1.

Plus, according to the new CBA rules. A team can designate two players who's amoritized cap numbers can count the normal prorated amount for 2007 and the rest of it in 2008.

English? In other words...

By cutting Carter before 3/1 we actually clear $5.2mil. Because only $1.2mil would count "this" year against the cap and then the rest of the dead cap counts in 2008. We would avoid the $3mil roster bonus as well as his $2.2mil salary. Only his prorated $1.2mil would count "this" year. Which is great. This is why we hold all the leverage against Carter. He "must" restructure, or be cut.

The same rule can apply to Harrington as well. We would not only save us the $1mil roster bonus, but we clear the $1.7mil salary and only his $0.7mil prorated amoritized amount would count "this" year. And the other $0.7mil would count next season.

So we actually clear $8mil by cutting Carter and Harrington alone!!! Woohoo!
Also, Holiday only counts $3mil against the cap "this" year. So as we speak, MIA is still $10mil under the cap. But about to be $24mil under after the four cuts we just mentioned of Harrington, Carter, Mckinney, and Anderson.
Bring Dielman on!!!

Of course, we need to use $4.9mil to tender Lemon, Bell, and Jones. And $5mil will be needed to sign our rookies. So we actually will have $14mil to sign FAs.

Of course, we can also clear even more space by restructuring Mcmichael who is due a $5mil roster bonus and Taylor and Zach also have big roster bonuses coming. So we will be players, believe it or not.

Dear Lord baby Jesus, thank you for gracing my beloved Dolphins with a respectable amount of Cap room to possibly improve in free agency.

I'm not a big fan of restrucures this year. It only moves money to be paid later.

Also: Don't forget that the team also has 22 FA's that they will need to sign. So after the tenders to Lemon, Bell, and Jones it leaves 19 open rosters spots to fill. That 14 million just turned into 7 or so.

Not true at all. If you read my entire post you would see that I already covered the RFAs we are going to tender.

We dont have 22 FA's that we are going to re-sign. There are only 4 UFAs of ours that we will look to re-sign and they are Traylor(cheap), Spragan(cheap), Fonoti(cheap), and Bowens.

Bowens will be the only UFA that will be of concern to re-sign because there should be teams that will show interest.

Denney, Eckel, and Vickerson are ERFAs which only call for the "minimum" salary. So you barely even notice them on the payroll "if" that...as only the top 51 contracts count against the salary cap.

So again, we will be players. Look for MIA to sign RG Dielman, FB Mugli, and re-sign Traylor, Spragan, Fonoti, and Bowens.

Wouldn't be surprised if MIA signs Kevin Curtis as well.

Sorry but let me be more clear, and it's not as simple as you make it sound.

Miami's roster of last season will end with 22 players being either Free Agents or Restricted Free Agents. Reading my post again you will see that I took into account the RFA's you mentioned. Making it 19 players, actually 18 now that Holiday has been signed. I did forget Jones, so it's 17. Now Anderson and McKinney were not on the active roster last season so cutting them is fine. Cutting Carter, and Harrington opens up 2 more roster spots. That means the team will need to find replacements on the 52 man roster, of which 51 count against the cap.

No matter how many of their unrestricted Free Agents they decide to re-sign, those roster spots will STILL need to be filled! So in all there will be around 16-17 roster spots, and the team will absolutely need to sign more than a few of those roster spots to a decent to good base salary if they expect to have any depth.

The Dolphins are currently $13.8 million under the NFL's 2007 salary cap of $109 million. But before determining how active his team will be when free agency begins March 2, Mueller said he needs to see how many of the Dolphins' 22 free agents (15 unrestricted) will be re-signed. The amount of cap space also will change before the signing period based upon tenders to the team's five restricted free agents and whether some veteran players with high cap numbers are released
