Sunday Buzz: Years of enormous cap space over

The RT contract decision does not have to come until after next year. With the cap projected future increases, the money is not going to be a problem. His being worth paying is the question, and I believe that decision will be made after this year. IF he does not progress, I could see QB as a high draft pick next year, possibly #1. We will not find an option in FA.

I just do not see many QB's that are better ability-wise that could be available.

Same here but, don't know what Lazor may or may not be looking for. Foles came out of nowhere.

I don't blame you for picking the thread which supports your argument. But this was only when his contract numbers were released. The initial thread right after his signing was made official was this and I don't see anyone complaining about it: http://www.finheaven.com/showthread.php?335472-MERGED-Dannell-Ellerbe-signs-with-Dolphins

Well to quote myself in the same thread -I personally feel like we overpaid for both players but oh well> if they were good deals in my mind I would admit it. Not to mention the dead money by cutting Dansby.
I dont see Ellerbee as an upgrade to Dansby(bash away, but outside of money I have never said Dansby is a bad player, just felt his pass overage was overrated.
I have no reason not to say its a good deal if I felt that way.

Everyone
posting in a specific thread loving the deal does not mean everyone loved the deal. And not even everyone in the thread that you cherry picked loved the deal:

Why are we paying 6 mil a year to a LB who is horrible in coverage?? and this is good news???

Has everybody forgotten we have no LT, no starting caliber CB's, our RG stinks bad, no TE????????

There is something wrong here.

Of course I don't think you judge any deal just based on we signed this guy or that guy. Money always has a place in rating a signing.
If we sign ellerbee for 3 to 4 million a year, its a solid deal but 7 million a year its a bad deal, bordering on sheer stupidity.
we paid two million more per year than his own team was willing to pay.My issue with ellerbee he was not able to beat out Jameel McClain all that time so why would I judge him by his one good year.

You're right, I stand corrected. My initial statement was "At that time EVERYONE on this board applauded Ireland for the Ellerbe signing which nobody saw coming." And I will have to add " - until his contract numbers were released." You're ok with that?

I liked the Ellerbe signing because I got caught up in the barge of signings, but I never thought of it going into the FA period because Karlos Dansby was excellent the year prior. No need to make the move IMO.

I always thought this was a Joe move because Dansby was from the prior regime and spoke against Joe. Even though Dansby played the entire year with a bad win.

It's ok. I don't have a problem with someone saying that they liked the Ellerbe signing. I was just responding to the "Classic Ireland" comment that implied getting this guy was a horrible move. So I just recalled that this board absolutely loved the signing back when it happened.

Your right a great majority of the board loved the signing. I never did and of course got bashed for it. In fact early in the thread someone is calling me out before I even got home.
It wasn't typical Ireland though. He was an overpaying spree that year for some reason. People were ll about the money we saved for Dansby even though when you add in the dead money with the new money and the future dead money when you cut Ellerbee you truly save nothing.

Ellerbe and Wheeler may be gone. So may Gibson, Landry is more than capable to be a slot WR.

I don't know why anybody would give Ireland the benefit of the doubt on free agency signings after proving he had been horrible at it for years. On the other hand Newsome has proven to be great at it and in an Ireland vs Newsome head to head I know who my money was on.

The year the Ravens won the SB they had more one year free agents on the team than any other team in the league, and I believe San Fran was number two, or very high up on the list that year. We had zero on our team by the end of the season that year.

Well if people respect Newsome and he says max 5 million for Ellerbee than 7 million is probably not a good deal.
