### Among cornerbacks who played a lot, Brice McCain (who was cut Friday) actully had the Dolphins’ lowest passer rating against, at 81 last season.

The Dolphins have told people they still believe Brent Grimes (who had a 103.2 passer rating against) can be a productive player, and McCain's departure seems to increase the chances of Miami retaining Grimes because without him, Miami would need to find three quality corners, not just two. But if Miami asks Grimes to take a pay cut and he balks, then it becomes problematic.

Tony Lippett and Bobby McCain remain in the plans. Jamar Taylor (134.8 passer rating against) isn’t being counted on at this point. So the Dolphins plan to enter the offseason intending to acquire at least two corners they believe are ready to help immediately.

Reads to me like joseph is driving the keep grimes train...miko crapping on the qb for yet another year real possibility...cant be good for the lockerrroom

Get one corner in free agency and one in the draft...high pick in the draft

This defense Hoops, ugh, we could possibly need three corners and depending on how the OV, Shelby and Wake situations turn out how many D lineman? Not to mention the LB and safety situation opposite Jones.

We are in desperate desperate need of some really good decisons entering FA and the draft.

The only player we have in the secondary worth a damn is Jones. Need 2-3 CB's, S, and possibly 2 pass rushers? Lot's of luck on a quick fix and a 1 year turnaround.

Brice Mccain as a nickel is solid but we were trying to use him as starter. Jamar Taylor should have been cut instead

They are wasting their time and energy asking Grimes to restructure. The way his contract is that would be a horrible deal for Miami just to have some cap relief this year. No such thing as a pay cut in NFL.
The only way to get Grimes cap hit lower is to restructure wich would add another year or more onto the contract. If you do the math that is a very bad deal for Maimi esp since his salary next year is 7 million.
This would make for a huge dead cap hit when we do have to get rid of him

IMO we have to move on from Grimes now.

No worries 'the Grimes' wont agree to a restructure, and on McCain it was obvious he should have played the nickel role not outside.

The question is since it appears this was a coaching blunder so why did the new regime decide already to release him?I guess they are already awarding the nickel to Bobby, that could be a little dangerous though, you know just like we tried to give Taylor a starting corner spot.

It would be nothing short of a miracle to have this all come together in one year. I thought it would be hard last year to right the ship in one year, this years task seems even more daunting to me.

I wonder to what degree Philbin enabled that qb bashing.

I had no issue keeping Mccain in the nickel although it seemed last off season we were sticking up on nickel backs while ignoring a starter lol

Exactly which is why after Taylor was having trouble nailing down the spot we almost were forced to play McCain outside. That's the thing I'm not exactky sure that was fair to McCain even though he thought he could manage.

That's why I thought the new regime might keep him around, at least in the beginning, it may not have worked out and he could have been ultimately released just a little later was my thinking.

My guess is they bank on bobby mccain in the slot after an offseason in the strength training program and look at lippett more as 2 deep boundary developmental depth...holes to fill for sure

The grimes shoe has to drop first...

He didn't have much of a clue when he let Davis, Smith and Carroll go either.
