Sunday Morning Camp Report (offense)

I sure could be wrong. Been there done that, many times before. But I still think it was Ferotte.

The tempo is a little faster so I'm sure there will be a few mistakes here and there by everyone.
NP, Ozzy, I just wanted to be clear. Thanks for taking the time to write this stuff up for us.

Sorry you couldn't meet up with us Friday night, we had a great time. :)

Yeah Im sorry too, but moms comes first. I had a hotel on the beach and all. How was the menu?

Anyway, you know how practice is. Sometimes you get your view blocked and cant see who threw it, or who caught it. So it may have been Feeley....

I'll take his word on it.

Any comments on the O-line from this W/E Ozzy???

I got out to the final practice today. It was a nice cloudy day, with only a threat of rain that never happened..

I know it's a little late, but I had to take care of some things at home first.

Reggie Howard was wearing the dreaded red today along with Seau, Edward's, and Akins.

NO PADS, NO HITTING MEANS THAT YOU SHOULD TAKE THESE MINI CAMP REPORTS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. THESE ARE ONLY A SIMPLE OPINION FROM A ONE FANS POINT OF VIEW.

The Qb's

Feeley was not very sharp today. He was throwing off balance a lot, and even tried to throw one while he jumped. He did not connect on any long passes, and was missing the short routes all thru practice. He looked dejected on the sidelines. He started to move the two minute offense then made a boneheaded throw on third down, trying to zip the ball in-between 4 defenders in the middle of the field.

It looked to me like they may have grilled him about locking onto one guy because he was looking around a little more today. I'm not sure if it helped or not because the one time he locked onto a receiver that I noticed, the ball was picked off by Roundtree. I'm pulling for Feeley, and I really like him, but I'm not going to sugar coat things.

Ferotte looked pretty good today, connecting on three or four longer passes, and hitting the mid range routes with good touch on the ball. He almost got picked by Howard in the two minute offense, but he bobbled it twice, leaving him on the back, and the ball in the air just long enough for Wes Welker to snag it for a catch.

Sage got in the action today, and he was throwing pretty good. His long passes seem effortless. When the ball leaves his hand, you here the pop of the laces leaving his hand. I've herd it more than once, and usually when you here that pop, the ball spirals perfectly. He connected on one deep ball down the sidelines that hit the man in stride, dropping it in perfectly. Then he throws to balls that were almost picked off, followed up by hitting Booker for 20. Overall he moved the ball fine, but still needs to work on the play book.

Hey Brock Berlin got in on things today!!! He connected on a real nice pass to Josh Davis, also dropping the ball in between two defenders. That was after he had already thrown two picks. I always thought that Brock had a decent arm, but I'm not seeing that live, or he is fooling us with some touch, touch that I never saw at UM.

The Wr's

In my opinion the Wr's were not helping the Qb's much today. When I say, for example, that Feeley looked off today, I mean his throws were off, but not always that far off. The Wr's got their mitts on the ball plenty today, although some were thrown behind them, they still should make an adjustment, or just plain catch it!!!

Newson dropped a couple, so did Huggins, Ed Perry, and Gilmore.

Josh Davis is pretty impressive so far. He runs some pretty nice routes, and gets open deep. I won't be claiming he makes the team anytime soon, but I will say, again, that he is a good candidate for the PS..........so far!

Chambers made a couple of nice catches today.

McMike was fine, making one nice grab, and catching a couple more.

Booker also did fine, making some nice over the middle catches, and one sideline grab going out of bounds.

Not much from Boston, except that he is running pretty fast.

The Rb's

Again, they have a nice problem arising here.

Lamar Gordon is looking real good. Cutting, and running very fluidly. I'm very impressed with him, and his effort so far.

Ronnie Brown is still making nice catches. I watched a lot of Auburn football, and knew he could catch, but in person he looks so smooth catching the ball. Running the ball, he gets to the outside very well. He moves down the line, waiting for blocks to set up, but today not many holes opened up for him. He made one nice run where he slid down the line, stopped, cutback into a hole, then makes a stop and go move on a Lb filling the gap. He got by the Lb, who swore he got a piece of Brown, but in a game, Brown gained at least 10-15 on that!! He also was met 2 yards deep by Seau, who reached out and knocked the ball out of Browns hands. Brown fought for the recovery though.

Morris is also looking very good. He may not have quite the moves of Gordon, but he gained probably the most yards today. I would still like to see him go up the middle more.

Kay Jay Harris got in on the action today as well. Again, they seem to have a nice problem here because this team is loaded with some talent at Rb. Harris is one that seems to like going up the middle, and then make his cuts. I like that because it can create something to the outside if the Corners commit inside.

Minor had a couple of nice outside runs today,

Sorry to cut this a little short but I need to go cook for my family.

I'll do the defense in a couple of hours.

hope you enjoy

And also during situational drill which was getting a score with two minutes left. It was 4 and 6th and Gus threw a beatufil bomb to AIR FORCE ONE..#84

dosent sound good so far with feely glad to hear that the backs look good not to worried about the defence saban should have these guys playing good. thanks for the report

Great report Ozzy! Hopefully this is just a bump in the road for Feeley, Im really pulling for him to work out.

I have a bunch of stuff to write up about the oline. I thought I would do it Monday or Tuesday when people are once again starved for info.

Ozzy you are the man. Us dolphans who live afar really need your reports to stay up to date. Thanks

I love Ozzy's reports. I like that he focused on the glamour positions as well instead of the o-line. The o-line is so hard to judge without pads and Contact. At least with the receivers and backs you can judge how they cut/run/catch/throw/vision etc. Same with the defense. Backers and DB's should be focused on since you can tell if they are recognizing things of the offense, in the right position, etc. Once the pads come one, though then we can start analyzing the hell out of both lines.

I wonder if Saban will end up keeping Harris, Brown, Williams, Gordon, Morris, Evans and Martin or Minor? Definite logjam. In my opinion Minor and Martin may need to get the axe due to the talent above them. Gosh, what a difference an offseason makes. Last year we had guys like Henry, Forsey and Vick King running the ball, now we have the possibility of Harris, Gordon, Williams and Brown. :)
