Dolphins coach Nick Saban flew to visit Daunte Culpepper Saturday.
The Vikings won't let teams do medical evaluations before trading for Culpepper, which hurts his stock. While Miami has been hesitant to give up a second-round pick, look for them to make a move if they lose out on Drew Brees. Mar. 12 - 9:16 am et

Drew Brees will make his scheduled visit to Miami Sunday and should make a decision about his future by Monday.
The Saints and Dolphins are the only two candidates at this point. It's believed New Orleans can offer more money, although Miami can probably offer a better chance to win. Mar. 12 - 9:13 am et

Will Witherspoon was offered a $13 million signing bonus from the Rams in a deal that averaged over $5 million a year.
The Rams are spending outrageous money. Witherspoon is a solid young starter, but never a Pro Bowl candidate. He's still going to visit the Saints Sunday. Somewhere, LaVar Arrington is smiling. Mar. 12 - 9:21 am et

Edgerrin James attended Saturday night's Suns game with newly signed Cardinals DT Kendrick Clancy.
Despite Dennis Green's claims about not wanting big-name free agents, it looks like they want Edge signed before he leaves the state. It's an intriguing match and we can't think of a team other than Baltimore that would offer similar money. Mar. 11 - 11:50 pm et

The Panthers are considered the favorites for C Justin Hartwig after meeting with him Saturday.
One of the most underrated free agents available, the Titans reportedly offered the three-year starter a big deal to stay. The Panthers have a big need at center. Mar. 11 - 11:25 pm et

Texans signed DE Anthony Weaver, formerly of the Ravens.
We reported the likely deal early Saturday, but it's official now. The 25-year old reportedly will get a signing bonus over $10 million, one of the more surprising figures of the day. Weaver is a better run defender than pass rusher. Mar. 11 - 9:55 pm et

Vikings signed LB Ben Leber to a five-year contract worth $20 million, with a $4 million signing bonus.
Leber is a versatile linebacker who will be expected to start with a contract like this. Never a huge difference maker, Leber's best season in San Diego was 2003 when he recorded 80 tackles with three sacks. Mar. 11 - 9:18 pm

Free agent DT Ryan Pickett visited with the Packers Saturday.
He would be a fine replacement for Grady Jackson. Pickett led the league in tackles for defensive lineman. Recently re-signed Packers DE Aaron Kampman was second. Mar. 11 - 9:01 pm et

The Vikings signed RB Chester Taylor to a four-year, $14.1 million contract, with $5.6 million guaranteed.
DeShaun Foster set the market for Taylor. It looks like a deal given to a likely starter who may share some carries. With his speed and receiving skill, Taylor is a natural fit in Minnesota and a certain fantasy factor. Mewelde Moore, Ciatrick Fason, and Onterrio Smith lose some relevence. Mar. 11 - 8:34 pm et

Bills signed DT Larry Tripplett.
Tripplett will help fill the gaping hole left by Sam Adams and Pat Williams over the last two seasons. He had a breakout year collapsing the pocket for the Colts. Contract terms to follow. Mar. 11 - 8:01 pm et

Ravens signed DE Trevor Pryce to a five-year, $25 million contract, including $10 million in guarantees.
It's an extremely risky signing for a player who was limited to part-time duties in 2005 because of chronic back problems. Pryce will step into the starting role vacated by Anthony Weaver in Baltimore's new-look defense. Mar. 11 - 7:09 pm et

Redskins acquired WR Brandon Lloyd from San Francisco for a 2006 third-round pick and a fourth-round selection in 2007.
The deal is pending a physical. San Francisco wasn't enamored with Lloyd's inconsistent play and wannabe rapper career, but they aren't a team that should be giving up offensive talent. Washington continues to mortgage the future, but Lloyd fills a gaping hole at No. 2 receiver. If anyone can maximize his talent, it's Joe Gibbs. Just don't expect a Santana Moss-like explosion. Mar. 11 - 7:04 pm et

Browns signed WR Joe Jurevicius to a four-year, $10 million contract.
For now, Jurevicius will fill a starting role opposite Braylon Edwards. The contract amount would seem to indicate he could slide into a No. 3 role down the line. Because of his injury history, we'll be cautious about over-valuing him in fantasy leagues. Mar. 11 - 6:40 pm et

Jaguars signed CB Brian Williams to a six year, $32 million deal, including $10 million in guaranteed money.
Williams reunites with Mike Tice in Jacksonville. The cover corner is one of the surest tacklers at his position, notching 47 stops, a sack, and four interceptions in 2005. He shores up a long-time weak spot for Jacksonville opposite Rashean Mathis. Their pass defense should remain elite. Mar. 11 - 5:36 pm et

Broncos re-signed Gerard Warren to a six-year deal, $36 million contract, including a $10 million signing bonus.
Warren unselfishly took on blockers in 2005 instead of worrying about stats and it paid off. Denver hopes he reacts better to this signing bonus than his rookie one in Cleveland. Denver has accomplished almost everything it has set out to do this offseason. Mar. 11 - 5:15 pm et

its ridiculous how much these players get just to play 16 games of football. i really think most contracts should be based on incentives

If we could check out his knee Id trade Daunte for a second

but

Hearing they wont let teams look id give them a 7th

Good post all around

a couple of the mock drafts i was looking at said arizona was prolly gonna take lendale, which is interesting about the edge story. that means he might fall further down, not that we need a rb, but i live in md, and the ravens do. ;D

I totally agree...incentive based contracts are motivational...and I think if we get Brees or Culpepper, they should be heavy incentive based due to their nature of injuries.

The only problem is that if everyone were incentive based, then everyone would have a me first attitude, which could be detrimental too...I do think that all rookies no matter when drafted should have a low salary limit...and then are forced to earn higher salaries through incentives. The contracts given to unproven players is getting out of hand and should be nipped in the but...but that's unlikely.

oh yeah, thanks Coach for the sweet read:D

given that they don't see half of the announced figures, they have an average career length of about 4 yrs, they often end up with chronic health problems at very young ages and they contribute heavily to a multi-billion $ industry....

i'd have to disagree.

Players get a lot of money because they generate a whole lot more for the team. I like it when I see players get large contracts.. Get your money. :D
