OK, I took the plunge and cancelled my Dish Network subscription so that I could get DirecTV with Tivo for Sunday Ticket. Now, I have ordered Sunday Ticket in the past, and I love the service, but sometimes, Sunday Ticket will be blacked out because the game is playing on a local network affiliate. This isn't a problem if you are watching the games live, but if you aren't, you could miss the game. Since I am not going to be able to watch the games live this year, how can I make sure the Tivo discovers that the game is blacked out on Sunday Ticket and then skips to the network automatically? It will really piss me off to get home and have recorded 3 hours of black burst. How can I make sure it always records properly? Also, any other tips on setting up Tivo for Sunday Ticket would be greatly appreciated.

Check out your local listings. If you live in the Miami area, then the games with be broadcasted thru local channels. Do remember that the TV rights go with the VISTING team. The AFC is owned by CBS, and the NFC is owned by FOX. For example, Whichever two NFC teams are coming to Miami, those games will be on FOX. I don't have the schedule in front of me at this time to say which two teams are coming to Miami. All other games THIS year will be on CBS.
I live in Colorado and the game against the Broncos will be shown on local tv here. Sunday Ticket won't show this game in the Denver area. Since we don't know where abouts you live, check your local TV stations and call Dirctv.
Hope this helps out. BTW, if you miss a game, let me know. I've recorded every game since 1996 and have a small collection of games. I will be burning this year's games on dvd.

I am in Colorado, too, so Sunday Ticket will be dropping the same games for both of us. The problem is that the Dolphins play mostly early games, and the Broncos usually play the second game, so the early morning games are always a crapshoot as to what they will carry on the local networks (usually they will list 3 potential matchups). I will be gone every Sunday morning, so I won't be able to change channels or recording options. Is there no way to make Tivo find this automatically?

Do you receive the Denver programming? If so, the Denver game will be on CBS channel 4 at 11:00 AM. They broadcast all the Bronocs games and you won't be able to catch them on the Ticket. Where in Colorado do you live?

The Tivo has search feature named wishlist. You could set up a wish list to record anything "Miami Dolphins" related. I'm not sure of the accuracy or how fast the guides will update due to blackouts or channel changes. So it still may be a crap shoot, but I think the wishlist will be your best bet.

Also remember the time difference between us and the schedule. The times are ET. and we live in the MT zone, so the games are on two hours earlier. Example, the game with Denver is scheduled for 1:00 ET, which means it will be shown at 11:00AM mountain time. Make sense?

Simple solution: your Tivo has two tuners. Set one to record the local game slot, set the other to record the game on the Sunday Ticket channel. You'll always end up with one 3 hour game and one 3 hour blank screen. Can't lose that way.

Of course, if you wanted to record another game during that same time, you wouldn't be able to, and you also wouldn't be able to watch anything else at that time (won't matter since you won't be there).

Hey Steve I live in Aurora and the same thing will apply for me. The Fins-Broncos opener will be on at 11:00 AM on Channel 4. I always check the local game before recording the Phins games via the Sunday ticket. That is the best to avoid missing the games.:)

Do you collect games?
We need to get all the Dolphins fans here in the Denver area together one night for a party. I know there are fans in Colorado Springs up thru Ft. Collins. I'am in Longmont and know of two others that I work with.
What do you think?

Another question on Sunday Ticket

Last year weren't the games that were broadcast in HD shown on Sunday Ticket in HD? This year they are offering a "Super Fan" upgrade for $99 which includes among other things over 100 games in HD. This leads me to believe that if you "only" subscribe to the basic Sunday Ticket you don't get any games in HD. Is this correct or are they just trying to make it seem that way so that you pay the additional $$ for the Super Fan upgrade.

I swear it seems Direct TV won't pass up any oppurtunity to charge an additional fee.

Directv said LAST year that they where going to put in some new things this year. It was also part of the new contract they signed with the NFL, that they need to provide some new things. I believe that contract they signed with the NFL was for around 2 billion.
I don't have a HD TV, so I'am not going to worry about it this year.

Sadly, you do need the Superfan package to get the games in HD.

Make sure you manually set up both tuners for at least 4 hours of game time, otherwise you might miss the exiting ending to the Bronco game... You know, when Jason Elam kicks the winning field goal with just seconds left?

P.S. - I have 3 Tivos going on Sunday Ticket, which equals 6 early and 6 late games recorded if I want them. On August 1 you can get the new R15 for free after $99 rebate and a 2 year commitment. Better to have 2 Tivos!

One other thing that sucks about Direct TV and their money grubbing HD package. They want to charge you each month for like 4 channels of crap. Now if you want to TIVO the game- it won't do it in HD unless you spend another grand on the HD TIVO receiver. I love watching the games in HD, but enough is enough.
