Sunday's Officiating Crew?? CONCERNED?

It's a valid concern IMO. The PI call against Cleveland in the end zone last week. What's your take on that?

My take is that it's time for the league to make PI calls reviewable, since games turn on them as surely as turnovers.

If it is any crew other than Ed Hoculi's or Mike Greers, I would be afraid. I would be very afraid.

Oh no. I realize NE gets a **** load of calls, but the top teams always do...in every sport. If youre a basketball fan, you should know the Heat get a **** load as well. Just like Jordan used to get in his days.

The NBA is too different a sport to compare to the NFL. A guy gets thought about during the game and it's a foul on the guy doing the thinking.

I was shocked, SHOCKED, that the Gronkowski play vs. Carolina went the way it did. The game vs. Cleveland is typical New England though.

I too was shocked over the Gronk vs Carolina play and extra shocked that the same play happened to us with NO CALL. Human error. It's just how it is. And yes I can compare bc the same thing happens in both sports regardless of how different the play is. Superstars get calls.

But again, Im not arguing that officiating isnt horrible or biased....I'm just saying that it's silly to worry about to the extent that it comes up on these boards.

How do you guys feel about the replays getting centralized? Seems like the league office could decide the outcome of games.....

Really ought to get the Freakonomics guys on this. It will probably ruin football though.

What's funny is people think the refs may consistently favor a particular team, but in reality any conspiracy/fix will be based on $$...in the form of bribes (smaller value, concerning individual coaches and refs), betting lines (possibly whole crews of refs and/or the influence of extremely wealthy bettors), and marketing money (involving league interest in maintaining the interest of large market teams' fans). What I mean to say is the Panthers getting a freak call in their favor against the Pats shouldn't be assumed to be a result going "against the fix."

If fixing exists, it's about $. You just have to figure out who stands to gain the most compared to the risk involved.

Possible changes in instant replay reviews.

Possible NHL style reviewing being looked at.........

Whats odd is I think there was an article that was on either ESPN or CBS I read an hour ago and it has been pulled or changed due to it ripping officials so bad. It said the officiating got worse as this season went on.Also named several calls that went wrong in the past 2 weeks and now the articles is watered down.(Still looking for it)and or completely changed.

It kinda started like this."The NFL has taken a wave of criticism in what will go down as the worse officiating in many years"Also it listed several recent bad calls. Also brought up Bill Bellichick making a good point stating everything should be red flag reviewable. You only get 2 a half so why not.

Here's one of the waterdown articles

honestly, to me....people that are 'concerned over officiating' before a game even starts shouldn't even bother watching sports.

You better watch more games then. Maybe then you will realize how valid the OP's point is.

Honestly, to me... anyone who isn't concerned over officiating prior to playing the Patriots, hasn't bothered to watch them play this year. You expect a vet QB to get a call here and there.... but referee crews have been playing 'Weekend at Bernies' for Brady all year. Pretty pathetic to watch.

I Agree, I am worried of the officiating like what was said about D Patterson play was BS , and when ever cry baby Brady don't get the call the odds of the next play he then gets the call!!!!!!!!

I don't think every official reffing a pats game has some corrupted conspiracy plan to help them win. Like someone said before, that would have been leaked by now. I wouldn't be surprised if there have been a couple refs in history that had some donaghy-esque gambling problems and tweaked a call here or there in random games.

That said, I do think refs suffer from two different biases that hurt teams like us. One is similar to the NBA, where good players are more likely to get calls. Even if it's subconscious, I'm sure refs benefit them from time to time, which obviously benefits teams like the pats. The other is that I think they make calls to fit the narrative of an exciting game. Case in point, last week's PI call that the pats win the game with (also the non-calls on the Steelers end of game scramble). I think a ref is more likely to make the call that results in a good storyline, even if they don't do so with premeditation. This wouldn't necessarily benefit a better team.

I don't think it's a conspiracy but if you're telling me New England doesn't get **** loads of calls then I don't think you're paying attention. Miami really does have to win by more than 21 pts to have a chance on Sunday.

This. I have never seen a team get more favorable calls in my life than the pats. They are guaranteed 2 PI calls per game. Have we EVER got a PI call against them? Is it a coincidence that PI calls are not challangable and yet game changing and always called on behalf of pats? Makes me sick. It's not some conspiracy. It's just blatant favoritism. The pats "dynasty"**** was built on the foundation of a questionable call (tuck rule). I use dynasty with an asterisk, because they haven't won a superbowl since they got caught cheating. #%^{ the pats! Go fins!

You really cant worry about officiating .
