Armando Salguero: Super Bowl teams dwarf Miami Dolphins in talent and front-office judgment

The Dolphins believed they were as good as Panthers in August
The most clear contrast between the Dolphins and Broncos came in December and January of 2014.

Head coach John Fox had won four consecutive division titles and taken the Broncos to the Super Bowl in 2013. But when the Broncos lost in the divisional round of the playoffs, Elway fired Fox because he believed the team didn’t perform well enough at critical times.

Only weeks earlier, Philbin’s Dolphins had missed the playoffs for the third time in as many years and the team had once again wilted late in the season. Ross responded by not only keeping Philbin but giving him a contract extension.

In other words, Fox got fired despite his success. Philbin kept his job despite nothing but failure.

Forget for a moment that the Panthers drafted Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short in the first two rounds of the 2013 draft while the Dolphins were picking busts Dion Jordan and Jamar Taylor.

This is very sad, this organisation is probably the worse managed entity in world history.

With the right moves, teams can improve by 10 games in one year. The 2008 Dolphins literally proved that.
Also, if you shore up the right areas, weaknesses in other areas can be minimized and glossed over.
Guys like Hewitt and Lippett could already be good enough to cover CB2 and an LB spot that most here feel is a hole in the roster. What if we only need one more good LB? What if we only need to bring in 1 good DB instead of 2? That kinda changes the dynamic.
What if Jamil Douglas can match Pouncey's seemingly overrated ability at Center? Then, you're trading Pouncey for a pick, saving cap $$, using that to buy an NFL starting-caliber guard to go with the other NFL starting-caliber guard we knew we needed, if not a tackle who's currently backing up an entrenched stud tackle but is good enough to start for many teams.

Honestly, I would love to bring in another tackle who could really push James and could comfortably replace James or Albert WHEN one of them gets hurt.

As I've said before, we need to kill a fly with a sledgehammer in terms of fixing our offense. We have to get an unobstructed view of Tannehill's abilty this season because a decision has to be made.
I think 60-75% of our draft and FA resources need to go to fixing the offense. We need to be able to run the ball and protect our QB, period.
If we do this, we'll score more points, hold onto the ball, and give our D a better chance to succeed, anyway.

thanks armando!

Riveting piece of info there from Armando.... who'd think that Super Bowl teams (even just playoff teams) would be loaded with more talent and better coaching than a team with a top 10 pick? Armando is really getting desperate for articles or something. I saw another stupid one he posted within the last week.

Thanks for posting nonetheless fisi

I read that earlier this morning. Yeah it's stuff we all know, but I think it sums up nicely why Miami is never in pole position.
Ross really needs to get this next FO/coaching regime right, or excuse himself of ownership, just sell the team already. After enough f-ups you gotta take the hint sooner or later that owning a team is not in your blood.

I have been praising Armando of late but this is such a dumb article.

A few years ago you could make the case that the Panthers FO was ******** for sinking a bunch of money into two over the hill running backs in Stewart and DeAngelo Williams.
You could make the opposite argument in terms of Coach for the Panthers that it was patience in Ron Rivera that led them to turn it around not a quick trigger.

Just because a particular move worked in someplace doesn't mean it will work elsewhere and a Super Bowl finalist will obviously have a series of great moves that led them to where they are.

Not an article worth writing. What's the point? To bash the team year after year. Everyone knows they aren't good right now. This writer Armando does this every year. I guess he can't think of anything else to write. It shows he has no imagination.

almost as riveting as his latest column, "Did the Dolphins mess up by getting rid of Ted Ginn? No."

some groundbreaking stuff here by Mando.

edit:
Armando just fishing for some Super Bowl clicks.

Here's another one he just posted about Tedd Ginn

 I had the same thought.

Two years ago the so called experts were ripping Carolina for letting all their WR's walk.

Carolina was 7-8-1 last year. Did they have a miraculous jump to 15-1 by being lucky and with no talent? No. They had talent but didn't do anything with it last year. Cam Newton is just having an outstanding year. Johnathan Stewart and Ted Ginn Jr are also have good years.

If anything it's proof that teams can jump high or sink low in a matter of one year. Why does Miami continue to get caught in no man's land? Coaching, bad OL, QB who has never won anything big.

And that defense is also having a great year. It takes two units to tango.
