So I was only able to stomach half of the Super Bowl last night. The game has turned into a big joke. The best part of the game was watching all the MVPs from every Super Bowl walk out. It gave me the chance to reflect back on all the Super Bowls of the past. I remembered the different periods in time when the Super Bowl was actually a decent game to watch.
The 49ers era where you had a true champion like Montana leading the charge. They were exciting to watch. The Cowboys era where you had a team that was stacked with talent. That era reminded me of the Lakers era with Kobe and Shaq, which I never liked. My favorite Super Bowl era was the Denver Broncos / John Elway era. Like Joe Montana, Elway lead his team like a true champion. So I guess you could say I enjoyed the late 80's and the late 90's.
Since 2000, the Super Bowl has lost all its charm. With the Patriots representing champions, the game has declined. Now, the Steelers are the new champions, which seems to be no improvement over the Patriots. :shakeno:
The biggest problems I noticed were related to everything outside of the game. The Jerome Bettis' Story seemed to almost take over the world. The media made it difficult for anyone to root against him and the Steelers. "Come on. Let the guy get his Super Bowl ring and retire in his home town." How could anyone say no?
Then came the commercials during the game where different players and coaches from the Steelers were holding the trophy like it was already theirs. Give me a break. What a joke. Where were the Seahawks players and coaches in those commercials? :shakeno:
How about when the teams finally took the field to begin the game? The Seahawks take the field first to a song called "Bittersweet Symphony" while the Steelers come out to some pumped up, high energy song. Give me a break. Who controls these things? It is ridiculous.
It just keeps going on and on. What about the refs? In the first half, they seemed to be calling everything against the Seahawks. They took away a TD on a so-called pushoff in the endzone. I have seen WAY worse than that not get called. Then, they give big Ben the TD when he clearly didn't cross the goal line. He was stopped right at the line. Tie doesn't go to the runner in football. You have to cross the goaline.
Anyway, I could go on and on. It was a three-ring circus sideshow of crap. I turned it after the first half. To me, it didn't make sense to even play the game. They should have just showed up and gave the Steelers the trophy.
In closing, all I have to say is that I pray that there is no Jerome Bettis Story out there on the opposing team when the Dolphins go back to the Super Bowl. The Dolphins will never have a chance. The whole world will be conformed into a lover of the team with the most "feel-good" story out there. Give me a break. :shakeno:
Final Note: The Steelers will not repeat. Their story ended yesterday. It will fade out in a couple weeks. And next season, they probably won't even make the playoffs.
