I think they know what they have in him, it's far more important to evaluate other pieces for swing roles etc.

With X, they want to see what kind of D they can scheme around their #1CB or even altogether.

Report: Jadeveon Clowney trade in 48 hours will it be Miami Dolphins?

According to a report by NFL insider Michael Lombardi, the trade for Jadeveon Clowney will or could come in the next 24-48 hours but the question remains, who will that mystery team be?

Lombardi says that the Texans are looking for a wide-receiver to pair with DeAndre Hopkins. If the Dolphins are involved, they can check this box. They have a plethora of talented receivers that could be moved in a trade for the defensive end.

Lombardi says that teams are trying to talk with Clowney about a new deal. He currently doesn’t have one and this means that without him signing his franchise tag, a new team will have to negotiate a deal with him and he will also have some control over which team he is traded to.

Miami could offer a mid-round draft pick and one or even two of their receivers if they wanted to. DeVante Parker, Kenny Stills, and even Albert Wilson could be potential tradeable receivers. None of those three would be worthy of a straight up trade but packaged correctly they could make an offer.

On paper a 3-4 line up with Nkemdiche and Wilkins at the defensive end and Baker and Clowney at the outside linebacker spots does sound nice. Add a true run stopping nose tackle to the mix and you have the makings of a nice young front 7. Not to mention Fitzpatrick and Howard leading the secondary.

Even though it sounds nice Miami will be in a position to add a decent pass rusher through either free agency in 2020 or the draft. Even if the player added is a step down from Clowney, they would be younger, cheaper salary wise and you don't have to give up assets in a trade. Plus Clowney has said he doesn't really want to play in Miami.

Of course this is all hearsay, up in the air. We just cut TJ, and guys are saying that Kiko, Stills, McMillan, and maybe Drake are up for grabs.

Maybe, maybe not. Who knows. Maybe they’re all gone, maybe they’ll all stay.

But I’m not sure I like the idea of another hotrod big $$$ guy coming in. Oh sure, he’s a monster player and we could use that.

Kinda like Suh. No thanks.

We’re finally getting rid of the horrible Tbaum contracts. Thank God. If we knew, I mean really KNEW that J would blow it up like he has in Texas, maybe I’d feel better. But we don’t. And that’s football.

I don’t mind getting rid of the guys I named (although I would like to keep Drake) but I’d almost rather keep them and avoid paying mass bucks (that he will surely demand) to one man that may or may not live up to expectations.

Just draft what we need next year. Hells bells, we STILL have 13 million on the books for Suh, and he’s already on his second team since he left us.

Sigh. Let’s avoid that this time....
 
Big (HUGE) $$$ for under-performing players has proven to be a loser.

This franchise has been on point in that experiment.

As absolutely DOMINATING as Suh was in college (as good as I've ever seen)

once he became a PRO and landed tons of $$$$$$$$$$$$

not so much. He's a smart dude. He's a business franchise of his OWN.

Not the prototype team dude = Not a fit for this program.

Very few cats are actually worth that crazy money. Just look at history how often has it worked out vs not been worth it?
 
Clowny wont be a Dolphin...no way we are putting that kind of money for a guy with injury history...I think Flores likes developing younger guys and can get more out of the guys we have, even at DE/OLB...
 
I was expecting we'd hold onto TJ McDonald until next year, ditto for Reshad and Kiko. The cap savings are much better if we wait 1 year, and nobody is trading for any of the three. Stills may merit a trade partner … and since I just fantasy-drafted him, it would make sense we'd part ways with him, LOL.

I really, REALLY hope that the lesson has been learned:

One guy shouldn’t eat 1/4 of the cap, no matter the credentials.

Tannenbaum made deals under the impression that Gase and Tannehill would lead us into becoming an emergent playoff team and contender for the division crown. When that didn't happen, Tannenbaum knew he would be fired, so he was all-in on building that team, which meant stockpiling veterans where possible. This is simply the fallout of betting on that last year of Gase+Tannehill+Tannenbaum. Now we turn over a new leaf, recycle everything, and start building from the ground up with inexpensive youth. That's just the nature of the league.
