Focus on future (not "win now").

You could see how Suh turned it on for the playoffs last year. I saw a few Rams games and his name was barley mentioned. Then in the post season he was chasing down backs from behind, splitting double teams, shoving his elbow in Tom Brady’s face lol. You lose respect for the player when you see they are or were coasting.
 
Every time a player with injury history that wants a ton of money becomes available I really worry that we'll the fools that bring him in. I'm hoping that with Ireland and T-baum gone we won't make dumb moves like that anymore but Grier is still here and he was here for those moves too. I'm just hoping he was not for it.

Me too. But I think we're OK because it would totally violate the base plan Grier clearly mapped out
which so many of us liked -- and pretty much immediately got on board with (e.g., not expecting
grand things short term).

I can't see any deviation from that core plan unless it suddenly was dictated from Ross -- as in do it
this way or you're fired. Honestly don't believe that's going down so I think the ship stays steady course.
But............................ With this franchise.......................... Oh well................

I'm just hoping the circus act days are over.

yeah that's a good point. He got rid of a lot of dead weight so it'd make no sense to do this. We can only hope we've learn our lesson.
 
Getting Clowney won't turn this team around. He's not hungry. He should be dominating especially with Watt playing opposite of him. Anyone that gives him $100M will be making a Mario Williams type mistake. We need to focus on the draft, developing our guys, & using the money to retain & supplement them.
 
Clowney looks like a good player that fits what they want to do but I really don't get the flirtation at this point. Why overpay for a guy on a team with so many other needs. This contradicts everything they have done this off-season. The guy doesn't want to be here and we have way bigger needs on the OL. Another head scratcher, IMO, from this front office.
 
Anything that has to do with Tunsil being traded is not very amusing to me...unless we get 3 first round picks.
 
Rather than answering the OP's question, I'd counter with a question of my own: Why would you be excited to see Dr. Clowney on South Beach?

This guy is like 100% the epitome of every talented bum who has come to Miami and sat out of games with leg injuries while being spotted dancing on tables at local night clubs.

We’re finally getting rid of the horrible Tbaum contracts. Thank God. If we knew, I mean really KNEW that J would blow it up like he has in Texas, maybe I’d feel better. But we don’t. And that’s football.

I don’t mind getting rid of the guys I named (although I would like to keep Drake) but I’d almost rather keep them and avoid paying mass bucks (that he will surely demand) to one man that may or may not live up to expectations.

Just draft what we need next year. Hells bells, we STILL have 13 million on the books for Suh, and he’s already on his second team since he left us.

Sigh. Let’s avoid that this time....

It doesn't seem to make sense for Miami for many of the reasons you state. However, if they can get him at a value price maybe??? Just for the sake of argument, say a third rounder is what the Dolphins give up. Sure, you have to pay a monster contract but the team now has a lot of room to do that. And you have to pay for that kind of talent, whether you draft and develop a player of that caliber, get him in free agency or a trade. Pass rush is one of the most coveted positions.

All that said, I'm really surprised by the Dolphins interest just because the team is in a rebuild. It makes so much more sense for a team that is close to a title like KC or NE.
