**Super Thread** Clowney/Tunsil Trade Rumor (merged too many times)

I live in Canada, so I've attended exactly 1 Dolphins game in my life. Week 17 1994. I've been to a few other stadiums and seen other teams, but i've been a Dolphins fan for 40 years. Now that I live on the east coast and most road games are a little closer, I may attend more of those. Beforehand, I was a 3 hours away from a game in Seattle.

However, I was a season's ticket holder for the Vancouver Canucks. Even though they played in the finals some of my best memories come from watching the young kids play 10 years earlier. You're selling hope, not stats.
Thank you for being candid. I do luv your last line!! It is so true. The only rebut I have is what sports team doesn't sell hope? Well I live in fort lard. Been a season tix holder for 10 years. Haven't missed a game in 15 years. I'm being 100% honest here, when we sign players tix sales jump...and a lot. When we signed suh they almost sold out season tix. There are tons of examples of this across many leagues and not just big market.look at Gianni's in Milwaukee. They sold out of season tix. One player most certainly does make a difference. Another example. Irsay is bein sued by every single one of his season tix holder because of luck. I'm saying many might belueve it to be opinion. But there is too much stastical evidence that signing big names does increase tix sales.

The highest draft pick we'd give up would be a second, and considering we have two of them, it's a price we could live with. And whatever happens, we will not have a highly paid quarterback through most and perhaps the entirety of whatever extension he gets.

He's only 26 and doesn't have a lot of miles on him. If you can get him in a deal that does not involve any of our impact players (Tunsil, Howard, Minkah or Wilkins) or a first rounder you pull the trigger every time.
To be fair, i don't want to give up our 2nd. There's way too much potential for that pick to be top 35.

3rd in the NFL in TFLs over the last 3 seasons.
2nd or 3rd rated DE in the league against the run by PFF. Missed only 3 games over the last 3 years.

If you can poach this guy for a late 2nd or 3rd and a player it’s a pretty good look after snaking Rosen.

Worst case they don’t resign him and wouldn’t we be entitled to a comp pick, likely a 3rd? Sounds Belichekian.

Dolphins are in the envious position of having a large portion of their roster on rookie deals. They can guarantee a lot of front loaded money for Tunsil and Clowney.

Brian Flores would know better than I though.

If & only if we could get Clowney without parting with Tunsil, Xavien, or our 1st round pick I would be all for it. Those three should be absolutely untouchable. The latest rumor of including Stills & Drake & draft compensation for Clowney... I'm all for that as long as it doesn't involve a first round pick.

I'm sure signing Suh sold a ton of tickets. I was excited, even though you knew long term it was a bad move. The thing is, how many tickets were given up because of the signing 2-3 years later. It's not a sustainable business model. You need evaluators of young talent, and coaching to help them achieve their potential.

There is probably less than a 5% chance that a particular player taken from picks 32 to 35 turns out to be better than Clowney. The bigger value in the second round pick is that you don't have to pay whoever you select that much money for several years. As I said though, considering that we won't be paying a QB big money for at least the next three years, there's much less of a need for cheap players.

I'll also note that if Flores really wants him here, that's a good sign that he still has a lot of football to give.

If it weren't for the fact that there was a QB that was getting a lot of money, the Suh signing would not have mattered money wise, and even then it really didn't when you consider that there wasn't a player or a combination of players the Dolphins would have gotten that would have made the team better.

The long term future for this team is very bright!!! I'm crazy excited how we are going to be in 3 years. My position on Clowney is he sells the tix for this year. Understand too Ross sunk major money into stadium again. He needs concession revenue. A Clowney 1 year rental. Yeah he takes that.
I'd also like to restate my position on Clowney the player. I am more on board with Rosen takin the helm and we grab Chase Young next year. I'd much rather that. But I wouldn't be pissed if we went the Clowney route. And I understand it is a very smart business move, not necessarily football.

It's a rebuilding year. Yes he may sell a few tickets maybe but the stadium is not gotta be filled up because we added a D lineman to a below average team no matter how good he is when healthy

Now this is only my opinion just like what you say is only yours . Please remember this.

It is a rebuilding year, but then something crazy happened. They acquired Josh Rosen for pennies on the dollar and could possibly do that again with Clowney. Couple that with getting a free look at Nkemdiche and this team is all about value acquisitions more than anything.

If we can finish with a desirable 3rd or 4th overall pick with Rosen winning some games at the end of the year that will bode really well for the team if they don’t need to take a DE and can rather trade the pick. With a possible eye on 2021 and Trevor Lawrence.

If the new way of doing things for Miami is maximizing leverage in trade negotiations and trying to take advantage of other teams, I guess I’ll have to live with it.

Clowney will not sell any more tickets to make Ross care from that standpoint one way or the other. Believe it or not, the Dolphins only matter financially to him based on how much he can end up selling the team for. Ross would much rather win a Super Bowl at some point than see a few more jerseys sold or seats filled, which, in any event, is more likely to happen when the team wins.

I think the chances of them landing a top flight pass rusher in the 1st and starting OL talent with that early 2nd pick are pretty good. I'd say that's 2 cost controlled spots accounted for without necessarily reaching.

Personally, i'd trade the NO 2nd and maybe a roster player but not Drake. If they want to drop the value of the draft pick i'll give them a 2nd roster player.

I do not believe. This is pure conjecture. Rich people do not stay rich by giving thier money away. Let's go sit down with Ross and ask him if he doesn't financially care about the Dolphins day to day. Ever seen an owners meeting? Where they fight to keep preseason yes preseason games for concession revenue. I've seen it.

It could be Flores helping out his friend (O’Brien) drive up the asking price for trade return for the Texans from other teams.

Not the kind of thing he wastes real time with, actually meeting with Clowney 2 weeks before the season starts.
