supplemental draft: Does anyone know the specifics on how a player gets into the supplemental draft? What's the skinny on Manuel Wright from USC?

He's 280 lbs and has to apply to the supplemental draft because he CAN'T go back to school.

isnt he like 320 lbs??

Nasty

You list him at DE. He has the height to play DE if he lost weight, but at 'SC he played DT and that's where he projects. At one point Wright reportedly weighed upwards of 360 pounds.

:hmmm: From what I've heard he's 6'6" 290lbs and is a DT. Not sure which is the most accurate is.

Yes he can go back to school...he just cant play football in school till 2006, and then only if he gets his grades up to par in 2005. At the time of the spring draft he had hoped he would be able to get his grades high enough to maintain his eligibility for '06, but was unable to do so. Facing the choice of 1. Waiting till '07 to enter the NFL, or 2. Forgetting school and entering now, Wright chose the latter.

But if we pick him up in say the 3rd round of the supplemental draft, we give up our 2006 3rd round pick right? I say it's only worth it if we can get him for a 5th.

The fact that he is dumb as a box of rocks scares me. He might be big and athletic, but the brain aspect is important in the NFL. I say 4th round or higher, as we need our first day picks next year.

To play DT? Ever heard Tim Bowens speak?
