suprise in pre-season

It's going to be HArris and I'll tell you why. With Ricky and Brown having their issues, Harris is going to get a lot of carries. He's a big strong back like Saban likes. Russell won't make the team.

last year I beleive that one RB that didn't make the team was pretty good getting 100 yards in one of the games I'll look it up
Fred Russell!!! We had like 15 yds all game and in he comes and squeezes through a crack for an 80+ yd run. Wanny felt he saw enough of him at that point to not play him after that. Then to cut him! He was also our best return man all pre-season. Shows what wanny knows.

I remember listening to a bunch of scouts and personnell guys talking about who could be the steal of the draft...... Fred Russell was their answer. Now he is a Bear. He is a Sanders style runner and wanny wanted no part of that. Why would you want a guy that can bounce it outsided for a big gain when you can hammer it up the middle 30 times for 75 yds? Wannyology???? I hope he is the next sanders and then Wanny will be forever known as the guy who cut him even after showing the ability. Really, he had like 5 carries and one huge one. I like those numbers.

I don't care because later we got Wes Welker who is our best returnman in a long time

it was that running back from the university of iowa i cant remember his name for some reason, maybe it was fred russel?, but i remember he ran for like an 80 yrd carry at the end of a pre season game, then we cut him

Yes it was Fred!! The man was a stud!! I was in Denver for the fins game a few years ago, I went to a bar to watch a Georgia game and they could not get it. I ended up watching an Iowa game, he ripped it up(on a top tier team) and I wanted him from that game on. To my delight we got him. To my suprise we cut him!!!!!!! The guy would make plays out of nothing and for such a little s#!t he broke and spun out of tackle after tackle. I believe it was back in 2002.

Yeah Fred Russel was the running back from Iowa who broke that big run. The thing is besides that run, he really didnt look that impressive. You also have to remeber the fact that he was something like 5-7. He would have been destroyed behind our line last year.

He was never given an oppurtunity. Wanny wanted him to bang it up the gut, and Fred was not that kind of runner. If he could have ran w/ instinct like in Iowa, he could have done great things. Yeah, at 5-7 200-215 he is not a banger. Yet we needed someone that could make plays when there was no hole!!!!! He was a Barry clone!!!

Agreed! But we needed a running back worse than anything else last year. Fred was a hell of a return man in his own right!!!!

this guy...

Ricky will be no surprise!!! How can a former rushing champ be a surprise? He will show his greatness.

Gus wil impress, mark my words!
Boston will be awsome(if healthy), again no surprise, he is a pro-bowler.
Harris will look good along w/Gordon, not TC MVP though.
Roth will have a good chance at being the TC stud, and crowder has a chance to challenge.
My TC MVP will be the STAFF for turning this mess around and having a stellar draft for the first time in................ only God knows how long!

I agree with that, Ricky is not dependable but when he is in the back field and getting first downs it will make alot of people forget his past.....I like our new offensive line coach, our offensive line play and our QB play is my greatest intrest. players to watch is-------Wright, boston( if he stays healthy), and Channing C. (Go Gators)-----I love this website, im the FNG!!:D

True Wannstedt wasnt the best judge of talent, true he forced the team to fit his gameplan instead of the other way around, but this kid wasnt a "Barry Clone." There was a reason he was passed over so many times in the draft, there is a reason he was cut from the team, and there is a reason he didnt earn a carry for chicago who was nearly as desperate as we were at running back.

i think kay-jay will be the surprise of the pre-season, hes been flying under the radar with the whole ricky circus, and RB holding out and LG being our starting rb. i think that kay-jay will come out and surprise alot of people.
