so surtain won an unbelievable majority of that vote, which suprised me. Of course, i am only assuming it MUST be because its relatively newer fans? but i'm pretty young myself and yet i still remember madisons DOMINANT days.

i guess you all forgot?

im not saying surtain wasnt great, he was. but the poll asked for which is the greatest DOLPHIN cornerback? madison was here before, and after surtain. madison had 4 straight probowl years and had more interceptions as a dolphin.

madison was class, how many problems did he cause? how did he handle the leave? as a veteran and he held up for us his last season and ended the season well and taught our young players a lot.

lets not forget sam.

I felt they were always close in talent. A hell of a duo as well. Surtain was a pure coverage kind of guy, with great speed and transition. While Madison on the other hand was a classical type of corner who made recievers tense. He was very agressive in his coverage - I think his lack of success lately can be blamed on the NFL's new strict rules about coverage. Ultimately that is what hurt Madison.

I always felt Surtain was the better corner, but will always miss them both.

madison did more as a dolphin, no?

thats what im argueing, as i ALREADY STATED this isnt about whos better, but who was a better dolphin.

Dammit, I wrote this long breakdown and tribute to both guys. And my session expired. :smackhead

Somebody please give me the last 20 minutes of my life back.

I'll just say this.

Madison became great earlier in his career. He was 1st Team All-Pro in his second season. He was the absolute man.

Surtain took longer.

:chuckle:

I hate when that happens.

Sam Madison has better stats than Patrick Surtain, but Surtain wasn't as much of a gambler as Sam was. From 1998 - 2001, Sam was the best corner in the game. But after 2001, he really started slipping.

One thing really stands out in my mind...back in 2003, we were playing the Titans in Tennessee and we were getting our butts handed to us. It was the third quarter and we were being shut out and hopelessly behind. The Titans called a running play and Madison came up in run support and put a rare good lick on the running back. Sam started whooping it up and was looking up at the big screen for the replay, grinning ear to ear. I remember thinking to myself, "What an *******! Your team is getting your *** kicked and you finally make a play and it's "HEY! EVERYONE LOOK AT ME! I'M GONNA BE ON 'JACKED UP'!!!!". His trash talking and excessive gambling (in coverage, not on the ponies) kind of rubbed me the wrong way.

Sam was a very good player for us and I thank him for his contribution to making our defense statistically one of the best for years.
