People need to stop saying a #2 next year isn't a good value for Surtain.
That's Jimmy's rule about picks the next year and it's dumb. Let me put it this way, anyone on here saying Miami got a good deal for Feeley ? I mean since it was last year Miami really only traded a #3 for him ! Nope ! Everyone see's Miami gave up the 35th pick of the draft for him. So if KC offers a mid pick this year and a #2 next, I'd be all over that like white on rice ! A #2 is a #2.

If KC gets Surtain and goes deep into the playoffs, their #2 next year won't be worth nearly as much as their #2 this year.

I'm with you. A pick is a pick. A 2nd rounder this year, is as good as one last year or next year.

First I never said picks next year weren't good enough I typed it. Second, everyone is entitled to their opinion so you should stop telling people what they should say.

If the Chiefs want to give up picks for him next year they can wait until next year to get him. I want to win this year too, although I don't expect a superbowl run so, if they want to win this year they have to help us win this year by giving up picks in this draft.

Me too. If they give a second this year and a second next year, im in.

Saban wants picks now. He wants to start building with as many young players as he can with this draft. And I think that is the right approach to it. Sitting on a pick for one year does no good, bringing in a player that could contribute for that year is much better.

I'm more for instant gratification. I do have the feeling that if they get surtain there pick next year could be a lot worse for us. I guess I'd take either though, with them giving us a 4th this year 2nd next year that is.

I like the Idea of future picks as well, and its the cap savings that can help us win this year.

I am not with you. That is just not how the world works.

We need to accumulate picks and a good way to do that is to accept future picks. You can even get more than the chart value if you guess right about how the other team will finish.

Then why do people ask for loans, and why do banks ask for interest? Present is better than future.

A pick this year in the second is NOT the same as a pick next years second.... KC is gearing up for a Super Bowl run...chances are, next years' second rounder is going to be lower than this years'........we know that there is tremendous value in this years' second round, we know next to nothing about next years' second rounders.

Why not just holdout for a 1st rounder this year?

Seriously, this year's second-rounder will be as good as it gets. And since it's what you've publicly asked for, there's no way Carl Peterson is going to give it to you guys. Negotiating tactics. You shouldn't have asked for what you actually wanted because of course any GM is going to want to prove that a price can be bargained.

Id take a mid round pick this year (4th round) and a 2nd next year if that were the best Saban could do.

That's my prediction. I see the Chiefs really wanting their second this year in the hope that they can draft a starter who can make an immediate contribution (it's Vermiel's last year under contract). I see them gearing up for their run this year, not next. They should be a little more liberal with picks down the line.
