Damion McIntosh took over at left tackle starting with the Tampa Bay preseason game. At the same time, Vernon Carey moved to right tackle.

Prior to this game, Vernon Carey had now allowed a single starting right defensive end (or starting right outside linebacker in the 3-4) to sack the quarterback OR make a single tackle in the running game.

On the other hand, Stockar McDougle did not have nearly as much success on the right side. Against the Bears, he allowed Ogunleye to sack the quarterback, and Ogunleye made three solo tackles on Miami running backs (for 2 yards, 3 yards, and 2 yards). He allowed Paul Spicer of the Jaguars only 1 solo tackle on a running back for a gain of 2 yards. Against the Steelers, he allowed LOLB Clark Haggans to sack the quarterback once, and make one solo tackle on a running back for a 1 yard gain. LDE Aaron Smith also tackled a running back for a 1 yard gain.

Since Vernon Carey took over at the strong side right tackle, he allowed Greg Spires to make one solo tackle on a running back for a 2 yard gain, and one assisted tackle on a 9 yard gain (not counting a tackle on a 6 yard pass to Evans). He did not allow Patrick Kerney to make a single tackle or sack, and did not allow Ebenezer Ekuban to make a single tackle on a running back or sack on a quarterback (he had one assisted tackle on 14 yard pass play to McMichael).

Damion McIntosh took over at left tackle against the Buccaneers and Simeon Rice. Rice did not have a single tackle or sack, Brady Smith did not have a single tackle or sack in the Falcons game, and Trevor Pryce had one solo tackle on a running back for a -3 yard gain.

Stockar McDougle's Totals: 2 sacks allowed, 6 solo tackles on RBs for 11 yard gains.

Vernon Carey's Totals: 0 sacks allowed, 1 solo tackle allowed for 2 yard gain, 1 assisted tackle allowed for 9 yard gain.

Damion McIntosh's Totals: 0 sacks allowed, 1 solo tackle allowed for -3 yard gain.

If you ask me, that is effective tackle play, Damion McIntosh and Vernon Carey are currently vying for most effective tandem in the league status...legitimately. I doubt they will get there as far as run blocking is concerned, but as far as pass protection, it is hard to criticize either of them for anything at the moment.

Excelletn analysis...i hope they can keep this up.

GO FINS!!!

Very good points. They do need to improve in making some holes for Ronnie, Sammy, Travis, Ricky, and Chatman to run through. I'd hate to see us one dimensional. But if it's that effective like it was Sunday, why not?

yes it was... it was so good in fact I'm glad you hit the quote button so I can read it all over again.

Great post CK, I love reading your analysis of the O-line. :)

CK How do you feel about our Gaurd play? I know the pass protection was there Sunday, I feel they struggled a little early on to open some holes up the middle but that is also due to Denver stacking the line.

Great analysis. Did I see or read that Stockar McDougle replaced Carey at RT during the Bronco game? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if that is true how did he do and what do you think the rationale is?

sorry...i forgot is was a long analysis.... :D

Go Fins!!!

great analysis dude, i just hope that they keep it up

GO PHINZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well think about it this way. If Houck turned Roman Oben and Shane Olivier (a 7th rounder with reasonable but not Carey talent) into very effective starters, why couldn't he be able to do that with these two...

CK, that's great stuff man. Thanks for taking your time to write that out for us.

Nice post. Personnally, I was very concerned with the switch of DM to the left side... since VC was playing so well... why not keep our best lineman on the most important side?!

It seems to be working out... and I hope they both continue to play at that level. However, preseason doesn't count, so we will truely find out how effective they will be against the better defensive teams... the likes of New England and Buffalo.

We're off to a good start! Lets hope the O-line can improve further as a unit. They will make our rested Defense even better.

Good work.

I wouldn't even count the "1 assisted tackle allowed for 9 yard gain.". Heck that is out of Carey's zone IMO.

I think it's a little premature to be considering them as an elite tackle tandem. I'm going to reserve my judgement until I am able to see a few more games.
