Im flying down for the panthers game...whats a good time to start tailgating? I am going to the nc state vs unc game on saturday then flying down sat night to go to the phins game the next morning.....for nc state games we always tailgate a solid 5 hours before kickoff...is this the norm for phins games?

No - 3 hours before kickoff you should be fine. Some gates open 4 hours before.

Just get there as soon as possible...one thing i saw sunday is the stadium turns into tent city....everyone has tents this year....sucks cause we were throwing the ball around and dodging tents every throw.

With all games @ 1pm in S. Florida heat, you have no choice but to tent.
