Forget your brats and beer: Tailgating is banned at the Super Bowl

Fans who planned to show up at the Super Bowl this year to enjoy a little tailgating are in for a nasty surprise: It's banned.

There's no grilling allowed. Forget about bringing a cooler full of beer. If you don't have tickets for the game, you won't be able to get near Dolphin Stadium.

A lot of local fans aren't happy about it.

"Tailgating is part of the whole football experience; it's one and the same. I was very surprised and disappointed and didn't really even believe it at first," said Bill Krawiec, a Cooper City resident and lifelong Chicago Bears fan. "I mean, there aren't that many people who follow the teams that can afford tickets. I guess they just want it to be a corporate event where people drive up in their limos, go to the game and go home."

It seems like these days that the fun gets taken out of everything. It's a shame. I understand them only allowing people with tickets into the stadium grounds but if you have a ticket you should certainly be allowed to tailgate.

You spend 2K from some low life ticket broker per seat and you can't even fire up your grill and drink beers with your fellow fans to fully enjoy the Super Bowl experience.

Guess it really dosen't affect many real fans as the majority of Super Bowl crowds these days are corp. fat cats.

Sad really.

smart business but a real shaft to football fans

What a joke what harm will the tailgaters do, I am so sick of people making unnecessary rules and ruining things that make people enjoy something they have been waiting for all year.

Somebody has to pay for the stadium improvements. If you're a season ticket holder, smile, at least you aren't the only one getting shafted.

Damn, they might as well just do away with the Superbowl....is it supposed to be a game to decide the best team in the NFL, or a corporate event where the average person can never even get a ticket? Then you have to sit through an hour of crappy entertaintment by Prince and who knows who else? The NFL is ruining things and taking all the fun out of football. No tailgating is un-American.

Am I reading this wrong...

What's wrong with not allowing people WITHOUT TICKETS to tailgate? Why would you even want to tailgate for a game you aren't going to?

You're not reading it completely wrong but your missing half the message.

NO ONE is allowed to tailgate tickets or not.

In the first post I stated that I completely understand them not letting people without tickets onto stadium grounds but those that do have tickets should have the opportunity to tailgate if they so choose but they arent' either.

It's all about money wrapped in a "safety issue" candy coating.

In a completely unrelated and coincidental matter, the NFL will be selling hotdogs and burgers outside the stadium for the very affordable price of $600 a pop.

:chuckle:

That's the price they sell them to the "Burger Brokers".

A Hot Dog and Burger "package" is $800 a pop to the public.

They should allow tailgating but just ban foods with trans-fatty acids.

Nobody tailgates at the super bowl anyway. All of the parking lots are closed off to the general public

This is the biggest non-news story ever. You can still tailgate, you just gotta do it about 5 miles away where you park or do it at the hotel you are staying at.

Not to mention it takes literally (no joke) 2-3 hours just to get in and get to your seat. So, even with a 6:20 start time, there is almost no time to tailgate anyway if you don't want to miss the 1st half!!!!!!!

Im guessing people who haven't been to a super bowl might not understand this. Because the super bowl isn't like any other sporting event. It actualy sucks if your a fan to attend. It's a lot of standing around doing nothing and TV timeouts. The Super Bowl is best seen on TV. Trust me!!
