Guys we are dealing with a first year head coach, some of you seem to forget this. Has he made some questionable play calls on third downs? Yes. He has also made some outstanding play calls. Hopefully he learns from this season. We are still in the hunt, and many of us didn’t think the team would be this good this season.

Keep in mind we are playing with third and fourth string CB’s, a LB crew devoid of talent, and another season with patch work o-line. X-man seems to not just lost one step but 2-3 our best CB is an unstaffed rookie. We can still win 11 games this season if we win out. That game last night proved we belong and the L doesn’t fall directly on the coach receivers have to take a bit of the blame both Sheffield and Hill dropped easy touchdowns. I am still happy and the future is bright.

It's not the coaching is bad. It's the same mistakes every game. I am optimistic, but I get frustrated losing winnable games

McDaniel is a very good coach. Tua is a very good quarterback. The receivers are great. The offensive line is okay, which is a huge improvement on recent seasons. The defensive line is very good, with very good pass rushers. That’s all a great starting point for the future.

But there’s lots of room for improvement. On offense, the tight end room is a catastrophe. The running back room needs improvement (though Mostert was obviously excellent last night). And we need another quality swing tackle unless we’re going to keep Fisher around.

Defense is the bigger problem. Boyer is a bad defensive coordinator. We need to hire Fangio this off-season. Our linebackers might be the worst bunch in the league. Elandon Roberts should not be getting NFL snaps. We need at least one and probably two new ILBs this off-season. Raekwon Davis is also one of the worst nose tackles in the league right now. It would be nice to upgrade on him.

Finally, the secondary is destroyed. Injury has played a huge part in that, but Xavien is awful, and we need more NFL caliber safeties.

If they finish 8-9 then this year is a complete failure. With Tyreke Hill that is disgraceful. And the head coach is responsible. McDaniel's game management and decision making is poor. Going for 2 in the 3rd quarter was inexcusable. The 3rd down calls were horrific. Not just 1 but 6 or 7 at least.
If a HC cant see his mental errors and correct them during a game then he will never be good.

Agree w a lot of this but Howard is by far our best CB. He gets the toughest assignments. Diggs was a non factor last night. As for the TE room - I don’t understand how they can be so irrelevant in this offense. R Davis is not a good player

Dude, this subject is being discussed in about 60 other threads here but ok we needed a new thread on it. I’ll bite.
Yes, he’s a first year HC, we all get that but you fail to realize he keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. He refuses to learn. How many times do you keep shocking yourself by putting that paper clip in that electric socket before you realize you shouldn’t do it?
While I bet he’s a new coach, he’s NOT an NFL play caller, anyone can see that. He builds great schemes but it ends there. He’s like a little kid with a new toy who is on a crash course.
Sooner or later if you don’t fix your own repeated mistakes you will lose the room

Gesicki is so slow out of breaks and so utterly incapable of breaking a tackle or making anyone miss that he’s worthless as the type of receiving outlet McDaniel’s offense needs at TE. This offense isn’t going to wait 4 seconds to let Gesicki try to get a step of separation downfield. He’s an outlet or nothing, so it’s nothing.

Smythe just isn’t good. He’s slow and a bad route runner.

At some point you have to share the blame where it is due friend. Our team scored 29 points on the road in Buffalo. That score would have been higher without some critical drops by our WRs. McDaniel was not perfect, but hot damn was our defense trash in critical moments. We all know they could have scored a TD on that last drive, but ran the clock down and took a chip shot FG. That means we needed to score 35+ points to win. On the road in Buffalo. Yep, the loss was 100% his play calling ability, checks out.

Dude, no kidding, drops hurt here but you need to overcome and put your team in better position with your own play calling. You ran the ball well, stick to it in must have situations. Drops will happen from time to time no denying that but it’s not the reason last night. Tua played very well and the game was not too big for him

Going for two makes sense especially against teams like Buffalo they have a much better Defense than us and can score as fast as us. I don’t fault him for the two point conversion as if he would have made it in the end it would not have mattered in the outcome. I do fault him for his third down play calling those third and shorts we should have run. To say he is not learning though is rough as the last two weeks we where just throwing in the middle of the field with 6 defenders sitting in the box. Scoring 30 in Buffalo against that defense is saying something. Our defense bend don’t break mentality is stupid as we have been breaking big time against tougher competition hence more or less his reasoning for the 2pt conversion and all the 4th downs he has went for this season. Aside from Kader, Phillips, Wilkins, Holland, and Sieler our D is awful. X is not living up to the contract we gave him neither is Chubb. Our receivers flat out dropping balls in the first half or stopping on their routes killed us along with the third down calls. Hopefully he gets shocked enough to realize he just has to not overthink himself on those types of calls

I just wish he gave up his play calling duties, he’s not good at it and we could do better with a experienced play caller
Off to the GB game now
