After being on the road all morning, I'm just now getting caught up on today's happenings. So we may have a deal brewing with Jacksonville, but Daunte is saying he would block any trade attempt, and that he has spoken to other teams regarding signing him as a free agent.

Since Daunte is his own agent, where is the line drawn as far as tampering is concerned? I was under the impression that not being allowed to speak to other teams while under contract included the agent. Anyone know?

Unless of course the team allows the player to speak to other teams

I believe that he was given permission to seek a trade. Bad move, IMO, because it also gives him the chance to gage the market interest in himself as a free agent.

How? He only becomes a FA if we release him. As it stands right now he isnt a FA

He'd be foolish to try and drag this out. The team doesn't have to release him till what, just before the start of the regular season? Am I right on this?

That wouldn't give him time to get into another squad, learn the offense and compete for a starting job.

If he goes now, he may be the man somewhere else by opening day.

It is a dumb move for him to block a trade. If he or we find a team that is willing to trade for him he should jump on it, because that would mean he can move on to another team now. He is saying he will block any trade by not restructuring his contract, that would only prolong the process and keep him on our roster. He would only be hurting himself.:sidelol:

Right, but I don't remember hearing or reading that this happened, and I don't think they would grant such permission until the Green trade was finalized a couple days back.

I'm just hoping we have some way to be awarded compensation in the event that Daunte blocks a trade from happening. No ill will intended, but he's going to be negotiating himself a new deal any way you slice it in the first place, so I really don't like this blocking business.
