Saw an interesting tidbit this AM. Tannehill was # 19 in Jersey sales from April 1st to July 17th this offseason. Interesting to see that many are hopping on the Tannehill bandwagon by purchasing jerseys.

I'm very surprised Michael Sam has the #6 selling jersey. Sexual preferences aside, a 7th round DE/LB with a serious uphill climb to make the team has the #6 selling jersey in the NFL before he ever makes an NFL roster?

I wasn't surprised to see him in the top 25 but definitely surprised to see him at # 6. My uncle is gay, is a huge Fins Fan having grown up in Merritt Island, and he purchase one right away. I chatted with him about it when I saw him post the picture of Facebook and in his eyes it is no different than Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier in the MLB.

:chuckle:

Sam is a pure PR move for the NFL.

The guy will make more money from book deals and talk shows than his NFL career.

Why would it surprise you? Every homosexual in America will be buying one...regardless of the team they actually follow...probably even if they don't follow football. It is a political thing...

I can see where your uncle is coming from. I have no doubt that Sam is looked up to by people of that persuation (not that there's anything wrong with that). I guess I'm just surprised that there are so many of that train of thought that have placed Sam's jersey at #6 for sales.

No disrepect but thats a bit of a stretch.

Jackie Robinson broke the mold in the days when being black in America could and would get you killed in certain parts of the country.

Sam broke the mold in the days when being gay in America is praised by pop culture.

But to stay on topic, it will be interesting to see if Sam doesn't make the cut, if his jersey will remain a top seller down the road.

RT17 would be much higher if he started more than 20 games in college as a QB. sarcasm.

Joking aside this year will be big for RT17. He will either move up that list or totally vanish from it.

A stretch, really? I grew up in a small town in ND and there are still plenty of bigots out there. Don't let the main stream media fool you. It's about as divided as an issue that this county has. Hell more people agree that marijuana should be legal than gay marriage.

But I digress. Let's not derail this thread. This is about Tannehill and who he has moved ahead of at # 25.

Obviously it has everything to do with his sexual preference.

It's the same reason 3rd string QB Tebow was consistently at the top of jersey sales - every evangelical in America wanted a piece of Gridiron Jesus

Some what different. Sure it's the gay/christian sales, but Tebow was also a 1st Round pick, and a legendary college QB. Arguably one of the most succesfull with the Gators.

The rankings that have me curious are those of vets that still have top jersey sales.

One would think every Pats fan already has a Tom Brady jersey.

Sure, he still sells tons of jerseys, but not top 25 jerseys?

Same with Peyton (although his switch to Broncos probably spiked sales again)

these numbers don't really mean much. this is for the offseason. the number 1 sales could be 50 jerseys...would be interesting to see the actual numbers
