It seems like he has a lot of batted balls. Does he have more batted balls than average for QBs in the NFL? Any data on that?

If so, what causes that? Low release? Is there anything Gase could do to improve that for RT?

Heavy pressure results in batted balls and sacks for most quarterbacks. Also the typle of passes the offense uses, such as short crossing patterns can result in an increased number of batted passes.

Same was said about Brees early on cuz he was so short.

Same was said about Rivers early on because side-arm.

For us though...its more about how fast the DLine gets in his face...since his rookie year he has improved despite the line being total ****.

I'm a Tanny fan, but I think he'll always have more than average. He doesn't arc the ball much, more of a laser type thrower.

I think it seems like more than normal because we don't bat many balls down and your comparing it to the rest of the game.

Tannehill will always have a batted ball stigma because of his first game as a rookie @ Houston. He had 4 batted balls, 3 of them INT's and he had a 1.2 QBR in that game as a result.

It's because when he ties his shoes he ties the left one first.

I remember being this an issue his rookie year. Because of that I've always noticed it but I'm not sure if it's more than average.

Sometimes defensive players make good plays. Cam Newton had an INT last night from a tipped pass as well. It's going to happen.

non issue at this point in time and i agree that intense push and inferior OL play contribute

Rookie year it was an issue. Not so much now. Though it wouldn't hurt for him to incorporate some pump fakes.

Poor interior line play allowing the defense to get to close and right on him.
I believe the tip in this last game was caused when the d line drove steen all the way back to close to tanny and tipped it.

Stares guys down, linemen can time the throw sometimes.

Yep. That pass the other night was just a great defensive play to even tip it. Freakish if that. He jumped and than extended his arm in the opposite direction to even get his fingertips on it. It had nothing to do with release point or RT but rather just an amazing play by the DE.

Pump fakes would be risky for Ryan Tannehill.

Tannehill has small hands (9"), possibly the smallest hands of all the starting QBs in the NFL.

On the other hand, Russell Wilson is great at pump fakes. But he also happens to have big hands (10.25")
