TANNEHILL: DEBUNKING THE NEGATIVE NARRATIVES

[x] Can’t throw deep
[x} Is not clutch
[x] Is not accurate
[x] Can’t put the game on his shoulders
[x] Is not a leader
[x] Can’t beat formidable Defenses
[x] Can’t win without a 200yd or even 100 yd rushing game
[x] Can’t win with a patchwork Offensive Line
[x] Has no pocket presence
[x] Not respected by his teammates
[x} Had no bearing on why Gase selected the Fins

[x] Any others?

If/when we get to the playoffs this year, that'll be another one silenced! :brewskis:

Yeah, that's an important one.

I'd feel more comfortable seeing that [box] checked off this season if we played in either the NCF or AFC North or South where the path doesn't go through New England

He is getting better by the week and still has yet to peak, he finally has a real coach and an offense that he will be able to learn over the next few years. My prediction is that we will be set for the next decade with him and Gates.

I get where you're going with this.

But eventually, someone is going to spout off: "I NEED TO SEE THIS CONSISTENTLY!"

Which, by the way, if any QB can do all of that consistently, they're an illegal clone of Dan Marino ad Tom Brady.

You're never going to make everyone happy.

I believe that RT has consistently shown his teammates respect him, his current coach trusts him, and he has been money for the last two years on the deep ball. Everything else on the list, I am not sure he has proven. Most of the negative narratives are overstated badly by the those that doubt RT, but there is some validity to their criticism.

We need some people to start the narrative:

[ ] Can't win the Super bowl.

I've never played football with pads, but I still get the sense that he doesn't do a good job avoiding pressure, which is especially frustrating considering how athletic he is. I'll give him a pass for the Titans game, but lots of QBs have shaky offensive lines and don't get sacked as much as Tannehill does.

The problem with the "lots of QBs have shaky lines" is it fails to take context into account. The context that is important is how the pressure occurs. Here are some scenarios:

1: The entire pocket collapses where there is not a lane to the front and the DEs have contained and bull rushed. There is not an escape lane. There is a very low percentage escape by running back 5-8 yards and out running every defensive player to the sidelines. This scenario is almost always a sack.

2: The DEs are putting pressure, but there is a clear daylight lane to either the left or the right. There is a fairly good chance for the QB to run or buy time in this scenario.

3: there is pressure from one side but the offensive line holds up to the other side. The QB can either step up or move to the blocked side sideline in this scenario.

4: There is a free rusher up the middle on a blocked assignment. The QB has to beat the rusher one-on-one to escape, so it is a low percentage for escape. A hot read throw sometimes can salvage this play.

5: There is a free rusher from the outside. The QB can move away from the pressure to buy time or throw to the free rushers side before the pressure gets there.

I believe it is unfair to criticize a QB with scenarios 1 and 4 unless they miss an obvious hot read. Scenarios 2, 3, and 5 are ones where RT has struggled with sometimes in the past.

Tannehills feet are much more active right now

I dont know why anyone would gripe with tbe qbs pocket play of late

The only thing that looks to be still missing is vs the wide pressure stepping up forward and out...i think its a muscle memory product of so many guards in his lap...he bails laterally or climbs straight up the middle

Up tbe middle is fine but if he stepped forward and out hed have more run pass options

Derek carr does it so does dak prescott and guess what neither of those guys have played with guards in their laps or inside and outside pressure at the same time

those teams havent hung the qb out to dry up front with dumpster fire o line play

Well, he is not mobile and cannot run at all.

His wife is ugly

Uh....He cannot stop announcers from mentioning that he was a WR in College (HA).

He cannot take punishment and is "soft".

He kicks puppies.

I'm out, I have nothing.
