Ryan Tannehill had a bad year in 2015, and no coherent Phan will dispute that. The team was not completely sold on his being the answer last year as evidenced by the contract, which gives us a reasonable out after this season. So, what does this mean for 2016?

IMO, the team will do everything possible to make RT the answer this year. The option is replacing him, and starting anew. Not a good thing for Ross. He did show a steady improvement for 3 years. Maybe last year was an aberration which happens to many a player. We can only hope.

I believe that Gase was the choice as much, if not more so, because of RT. He has his work cut out for him, and I'm thinking that he will do better than what Tannehill has had in four years. We shall see. They both have considerable weapons at the skill positions to start with Parker, Landry, and Stills.

Next, Tannenbaum has to chime in heavily in his signings. He has to spend on the OL and cannot wait for players to develop. I now believe that he will sign a VG OG. Not sure what he will do at OT, depending on Albert, but fully expect a substantial upgrade. I believe he will do his best to keep Miller, who worked well wit RT in running, receiving, and blocking. Not sure on Cameron, as he did not really click with Tannehill but, was abused in his usage.

This plan may take a bit from the signings and plans on D but, don't think it will matter all that much.

Tannehill was the "Chosen One." IF he still is, after this season, we are in good shape. JMO

IDK, seems a bit harsh to kill the guy over a sport imo

IMO, it is not do or die for a QB until he is surrounded with NFL caliber talent and doesn't perform or if there are specific things he is doing (throwing into coverage, dropping his eyes to the pass rush, consistently missing open receivers, etc) that gives the team a reason to believe he is not the one. Continuing to put up average numbers behind a complete POS OL is not the end of a QB. FIX THE OL, then decide. They will ride with Tannehill until they believe they have David Carr'd him.

It's the same reason why those that said 2014, and 2015 were "do or die" were wrong.

I agree with finfaninbuff, I would like to see what he can do behind a competent Oline. If after that he still isnt up to par then draft a new qb and bring in real competition.

I don't think anybody said in 2014 "do or die".
2015 "do or die" lasted only until Tannenbaum gave him that contract which made it pretty clear that Tannehill has 2015 and 2016 as "do or die". Tannenbaum is not the greatest guy when it comes to QB evaluation considering he screwed the Jets with that Sanchez contract.

But to be honest if Tannehill does not significantly improve with Gase who probably got the job only because he worked well with other QBs Tannehill will be looking for a job in 2017. Plug the hole on OL and no more excuses.

They need to spend most of their free agent money on a quality OG or OG's and I really believe Ryan will have a solid year with this new offensive minded HC. Heck he made Cutler look good which is not easy :)

I like our playmakers there with Parker coming on strong at the end and the new guy will emphasize the running game whether Miller resigns or not. He did in Chicago ...Maybe add a TE
Then use the draft to fix the D .(CB,LB,DE)

I would also look to find a challenger for Ryan either in the middle rounds or a UDFA. He has had little competition and needs to be challenged and you never know. We might find his eventual replacement.

It'll be do or hey, the o-line must still not be good enough/he's learning a new offense/Kenny Stills sucks/whats with the playcalling?

When this bi-polar OL performs even slightly below average, RT17 performs effectively. When they don't .. he ends up pissing blood. Anyone who can't understand either of the correlations has their own agendi and aren't worth the effort. Now, when the OL is not a bottom-feeder and should Tannehill still perform spottily, then it becomes a valid conversation. Good example: Sanchez's last starting season in NY: abysmal performance, record, happy feet, missing open receivers while throwing into triple coverage, etc.. while PFF ranked their OL top 5. On the basis of that when it comes to arguing his ineptitude, there's no wiggle room.

My main concern is how much we can actually 'accomplish' of the plan above.

I just don't see this as a quick one year fix as much as I would hope for it to be. I guess it depends what is done as far as upgrading the O line if we keep Miller etc before we totally judge final the QB. What if most of the resources are spent on this awful defense and we are left with BS offensive depth signings on the O, for instance like what we did with the O line this year. Heck we didn't even have a backup center and the other depth O line players kept getting released and resigned never to see the field.

We always spend a ton in free agency so let's do it on OL especially at the guard positon. Maybe two. Douglas can back up guard and center. Turner can back up the tackle positon and battle the free agent for a guard spot. DT is cut. Draft a tackle in a late round to throw in the mix.
The line is fixed in one season. We are lucky to have two good starting tackles and a solid center.
Simpler to fix than you thought right ?
I'm actually very optimist on that side of the ball. Our new coach is a nerdy genius as far as O scheme's and play calling.

As far as the defense one good draft that added a starting linebacker and a starting CB would go a long ways in fixing that unit.

That's the glass half full scenario Albert but it's doable.

At a million per game next year Ryan will have to perform at top level if he hopes to get his 1.25 million per game in 2017. It really is simple as that. That tanne-hater vs tanne-homer should be decided next year. I am part of neither. I hope to **** he comes around.

Let's give him every chance since we have so much invested but also hedge our bet with a project QB that competes. Logan Thomas is probably not that guy.

Free agency has never seemed to work for us. I would like our new coach to make some of the current players better by putting them in the right position. Play calling was not good this past year and it certainly contributed to our line problems. We also need to be better at drafting line prospects in the future. In the interim, Run the ball. Pass off your run success. To many times we passed for nothing on first down and than ran on second down for a yard or 2 forcing us to 3rd and 8 or 9. Whenever the Patriots get in trouble during a game in the last decade they will usually come out and run the ball 3 times straight and usually pick up a first down and get back into a groove on offense. sometimes you just need the mentality stressed by play calling IMO. Just tell the offense you get 3 running plays to get 10 yards. Once they execute that it is all downhill from there. Points will come.
