Tannehill excited about Lazor's offense other notes from our QB

It's not just his chemistry with Wallace. It's his deep ball that is the issue. He did the same with Hartline the year before. He would either underthrow Hartline or overthrow him. He needs to get that fixed or the long balls will be nonexistent again.
 
Can anybody explain the rule of why Tannehill and Lazor can't really communicate yet?
 
And Shermans 2nd season was the season Tannehill was finally comfortable enough to let it air. How did that work out?

new offseason rules that came about in the last CBA. Here's an article with some info:

This year teams can start Phase One of the offseason program on April 21.

Phase One consists of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to strength and conditioning and physical rehabilitation only.

Phase Two consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual player instruction and drills as well as team practice conducted on a "separates" basis. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.

Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or "OTAs". No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permissible.

I could be wrong on this, but I do believe the original blame/fault/responsibility lies at the hands of the NFLPA. Following the college system of hours w/ players, they wanted to limit the time 'their members' were being 'in session' with the coaching staff/organisations - sort to speak.

True story.

As to the numbers O. I'm pretty sure that was what Pollian referenced when as about the problems connecting with Wallace. He said that Miami was using him in schemes as opposed to the 1 on 1 WR he is, and that Lazor would correct that.

Long story short the players want some semblance of an offseason. Because of that the NFLPA pushed for rules to make sure they get it. One of those rules essentially states that the coaches cannot discuss football stuff in depth with players during specific periods of the offseason ... so they can take vacations and play with their kids etc.

So, coaches call and ask "how are you doing? enjoying your summer?" and the player is supposed to answer "yes sir, I've worked out every single day and not missed a single self-imposed conditioning drill my private personal trainer scheduled. I've been eating right and on my own going over tape of last year's games and next year's opponents sir." And then the coach says "oh, well that's all good to hear .... but I'm just glad you're feeling well ... ;)"

It's this weird song and dance where the coaches do nothing on the surface ... but IF a tablet full of the new plays happens to make its way into Tannehill's hands, the coach knew nothing about it and Ryan didn't even realize those plays were there! Here's hoping that fisfaninmiami called it right and Ryan just happened to get the plays early ... and that he plays a lot of catch with Wallace.

Offense and play calling are two different things. We also didn't have the personnel to simple plays like screens. It seems like there were no easy throws in the offense for the QB and I think the fact that our lineman couldn't get out in front of the play to block prevented some of those play calls. Still showed a lack of creativity by Sherman.
 
One thing about Lazor is he uses his talent well.

Sherman was in Miami like he was in GB and A&M. He's been like that forever. Lazor has shown to be creative as a playcaller.

Are you saying that Zac Taylor is hopeless as a QB coach just because he's Sherman's son-in-law or because you know? The word that I heard is that Taylor is very good and Tannehill made good progress with him (his numbers improved - QB rating, pass completion %, more TDs, less interceptions, but I defer to Shouright's numerical accuracy to correct me).
I hate the concept of nepotism and Zac is crazy to expose himself to that perception. Lazor will make up his own mind but be open to the possibility that Zac continues in the role and is pretty good. The word is that he is very good and he aspires for to be a Head Coach in the NFL.
Years ago we laughed when we heard that Jason Garrett aspired to be a Head Coach when he started as the Dolphin QB Coach.

I agree 100%. One of Sherman's biggest disappointments was his horribly predictable play calling (and Philbin knew it). There were some games that went OK, but too often Defenses were reading it too easily. Lazor should rapidly improve that and improve Tannehill in the process. Hopefully he gets more opportunities to use his speed as more of a weapon.
