No his pocket presence isn't where it needs to be, but against the steelers he had nice plays where he evaded pressure, extended the play with his legs and found wide open WRs down the field in Gray and Landry. I was for certain that Tannehill was going to take a sack on one of those breakaway plays.

if he can just do that more consistently...

I actually felt like he did this better as a rookie in some respects. :idk:

IMHO changing offenses so many times hasn't exactly helped this aspect of his game. And he will probably always be a bit deficient in terms of pocket presence.

Maybe perspective. From a rookie you expect automatically less than from a veteran. If that player exceeds your expectations it may skew your view of things. It is a very human characteristic.

I do agree with the OP his pocket presence today was absolutely stunning.

He did do it better as a rookie...which is also the last time his O-line was at least mediocre. He was able to escape the pocket and improvise today because he actually had a pocket. The first one where he threw the 53-yard play to Gray only Pouncey's guy got in his face (Pouncey got manhandled on that play badly)...usually it's both Guards getting pushed back into his face plus one of the tackles getting beat around the edge. No where to run most of the time.

I still think he's broke but it was a nice game. Now he plays the Bills against who he's had some of his worst career games.

as I have always said, Ryan is good enough to win with as long as he has the requisite "complementary package" around him -- and that 100% stars up front!

For sure he's NO Marino -- but we ain't ever gonna get on of those rascals again -- at least until the next macro galactic cycle.

The best you can hope for with Thill is a highly efficient winning QB despite his obvious issues -- as long as he is NOT asked to carry the game...

He's a compliment piece -- not the featured piece.

Yea yea. I get it. Some folks want Superman @QB but even Marino couldn't win games on his back.

For me, the 10-trillion question is -- can the FO dominated by TBum assemble the right parts around Thill?

I don't think so. And for that -- we'll be rehashing the SOS soon enough...

BNF.

A high performance OL -- like what we had in the glory days -- makes the entire TEAM a LOT better.

This last weeks cuts is enough to provide a lot of doubt that the front office is still being dominated by Mike Tannenbaum. I'll hope for that for now.

Ryan made some plays today leaving pocket and looking for something other than a sack. Thats what i have nwen waiting to see from him.

The play were he got banged and side stepped to roll left and chuck it down the field was nice! The commentator during the game said it best that people were bashing his pocket presence, but he has lacked a pocket to step up or slide into for the most part. I mean he needs to keep improving but the injuries to this O-Line have been brutal this year! It was good to see the possibilities when we have our starters in, which Tanne has a very good record (like 7-2) when Pouncey, Albert, and James are on the O-Line.

I honestly believe that was the best play of his career to date

7-1 when those three start and finish the game together.
