Don't count Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill out just yet.

Tannehill, a late arrival to training camp and No. 8 overall draft pick, put up impressive numbers in the Dolphins' first team-wide scrimmage on Saturday. According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, Tannehill was 10-for-13 passing for 114 yards and a touchdown.

"I thought he did well," Dolphins coach Joe Philbin told reporters of Tannehill after the scrimmage. "Again, I thought he looked comfortable. I thought he looked natural out there. It wasn’t too big for him."

Even more impressive is that Tannehill had some time against Miami's first-team defense. This is a good step in the right direction for the young quarterback. Veterans Matt Moore (10-for-20, 65 yards, touchdown) and David Garrard (9-for-17, 57 yards, touchdown) didn't put up as impressive numbers, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

Tannehill made some impressive plays today against the 2nd team defense. The coaches are trying to give him confidence and bring him along slowly.
Very smart.

Heres to hoping Tannehill can be a stud qb for years to come. Im quite happy with the pick because after him wasnt a qb worth any kind of day one draft pick on or hell one I would have drafted in first two rounds. He is a smart kid met him once long ago, went to high school with my son in Big Spring. Damn wish my son had played ball he is 6 foot 5 at least 250 or more pounds , would have made an excellent TE but the was never into sports. I was the athlete but just didnt have the size lol. Not much a 5'7 t0 5'8 guy can do when he runs like a 4'7 lol.

I'll hold my excitement until he gets significant time against our or another team's 1's. Still, a baby step in the right direction.

It seems like he is comfortable in our new O. I hope he can make a push to start this year. I'd hope I could take him over Gerrard and Moore. They are just decent as starters.

Let's call Tuna & order a bottle of that anointing oil he's always talking about ... might need it!! :chuckle:

Awesome to hear. I'm pumped for the Tannehill era of QB'ing to start, whenever that is.
Lord knows how I've been longing to buy my first Miami Dolphins jersey(perferably our starting QB), but the talent in Miami has been shaky to say the least. I really do feel in my heart Tannehill can be that guy. But I dont think anyone on this board can blame me for not making a commitment just yet. I gotta see where Tannehill is in 2013 for me to commit but I want to so bad.

I wanna wear a no. 17 jersey every Sunday I watch my 'Phins.

you can always go retro #13

If all the latest Tannehill talk is true then things are going the way we wanted them to.

Giving Tannehill or anyone a starting job without them earning it is always a huge mistake.
