This oughtta be a hoot:

Ryan Tannehill has moved up to 24th on the NFL’s all-time passer rating list, and do you know with whom he’s tied?
None other than Dan Marino, with Andrew Luck and Brett Favre just behind them.
And though that reflects flaws in the passer rating system – after all, Tannehill is no Marino – it also speaks well of how far Tannehill has come. I asked two longtime general managers this week if Tannehill is past the prove-it stage and can be considered a quality long-term quarterback.

I gotta say, and I may get deservingly blasted for it- but Tannehill can't Ball like Aaron Rodgers or Marino when it comes to throwing grenades, but he can squeeze the ball in tight windows as well as anyone I can think of! He is deadly when he passes from a bootleg or scrambling. Again the long ball still needs a lot of work. I hope his better years are ahead of him.

He's getting there though. I don't remember seeing anybody ever throw a dart like that pass to Stills in the SD game. That throw was special.

The safety was sure he had a pick, but he underestimated RT's arm.

So that stat suggests he's been pretty good all along. Wins, more wins please and all the glory will come! That and the understanding that the odd stinker game does not a bust make.

The deep ball needs work?

Yessir, I feel like it does at least. He has always done well at short to medium passes and Great at throwing darts in tight windows. This is the first year we have consistently been successful with the deep ball. There are a lot of reasons for his improvement. Parker and Stills are doing a great job making some circus catches , running game, pass blocking is improved and Gase has changed his mechanics. I sure hope he hasn't hit his ceiling on the deep throws. To be elite he needs to drop a 50 yard pass to a receiver in full stride consistently "in the bucket", Manning was a beast in that department and so is Ben. Tannehill has more to offer which is a good thing. With this being said here is a great highlight video someone put together! Dude is getting better!

Tannehill's always been good, it's just that A LOT of people don't know how to evaluate QB's.....including our former head coach.

That throw against Baltimore a few years ago is a play I don't think even Rodgers can make on 4th and long.

That's a criteria for being elite?

Tannehill deep passes became more consistent last season when the Dolphins added Al Saunders as an offensive assistant. If I remember right, he had Tannehill throw the ball sooner and with more arc. This allowed for a greater margin for error and allowed the receiver to make any necessary adjustment(s) while the ball is in flight.

Thill is tied for 3rd in the league with 10 passes of 40+ yards and tied for 12th with 33 passes at 20+ yards. I don't know what you have been watching, but Thill has been throwing deep dimes all season...just ask Kenny Stills.

Thill not having a deep ball is a dead and old narrative that he has trumped time and time again.

Two points......

First..... Tannehill has improved dramatically this year and seems on the right track to becoming a top QB.

Second..its pointless with the shift to a passer friendly NFL...endless rules changes to aid the passer. From pass interference rules...to changing the way quarterbacks can be hit...being able to throw away the ball outside the hashmarks...etc etc etc

Just like the record books...its pointless and flawed to use QB ratings or records to compare QB's from other era's to todays group.

Sadly, and unjustly....QB's like Brady, Brees, and even Manning...who greatly benefit from the post 2007-2008 Brady-Manning rules changes too pass interference....will be viewed as greater than all who came before them...and its just not true.

Dan Marino would throw for 6000 yards and 60 td's in this version of the NFL.

Regardless of the above facts...todays QB's will get viewed by todays fans as greater than the previous era's all time greats because of rules changes effecting the ratings and record books...it's unfair, but..... it is what it is.

With all that said...I am happy with Ryans improvement....and want to see him start taking over games like this Raven's game...and making the difference between winning and losing.

No, not really! But if people are going to compare Tannehill to a pure passing QB like Dan Marino or even Drew Bree's it makes me laugh! You guys can post your stats all day long. I love Ryan Tannehill, If you can find 1 bad post from me on this forum ever-about him show it to me! I just read the article and agreed with it.
15 TD and 8 INTs with 329 attempts in week 12 lmao! Smh!

And this is with the QB friendly, no touching the WR after 5 yards intact!

Yeah, but Drew Brees was an anomaly in that he got a late start and wasn't considered a top tier QB till his 5th full year . . .

I was saying that it took Brees five full years to become a top tier . . . Oooooooh!
