“It’s a completely different system,” Tannehill said. “I think there are always some similarities between offenses. But we have some new concepts, some things we haven’t done in the past, pushing the ball downfield in many different ways.

Spreading the field is going to be a big key. Noticeably from the stands, you can see as far as spreading the field in the run game and in the passing game.”

In the past we’ve heard talk of an up-tempo, downfield passing game that brings excitement. But when gametime came, it never delivered.

This offense gets the ball in the hands of the playmakers. It throws deep. But mostly its passing game is fueled by spreading the field with short and intermediate routes that put receivers in on-on-one situations with defenders.

And the thing Tannehill has been working on most so far?

“Timing,” he said. “I think timing on a lot of the new routes is key.

“This offense is pure timing, throwing to spots. You see on the first day, you might miss a guy, but we’re throwing to these spots and over time we’re going to build the trust that the receiver is going to be there and I’m going to put it in the right spot. That’s the biggest thing right now, it’s trusting the receivers, trusting myself, them trusting me and getting the ball in the right spot at the right time.

Well anything that is completely different than Sherman's offense can be seen as a plus. The biggest plus I feel about Lazor's offense is gonna be using the players to their strengths and not forcing them into one position and hoping it works.

Lazor coming on board and Tannehill potentially breaking out are the only two things that give me hope for this season...

yep, that and the idea that if things go as bad as they might, at least we should get a new head coach out of the deal.

The biggest difference it sounds like movement. I always complain about Sherman's lack of creativity but it was more from the fact that he did not try new things. I'm not talking about trick plays either. We were very much a "what you see is what you'll get offense"

Sherman was a "One-Trick Pony." Didn't they call Wallace that at one point? hahahaha:lol:

The best thing about Sherman's departure is that we will see Joe Philbin coaching without Mike's input and suggestions. I suspect that Philbin had a blind spot and it's name was Mike Sherman, his friend and mentor for over 20 years. The net effect was that it was probably difficult for Joe to slam the guy who opened doors in college coaching for him and then in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers. But we could all see the lack of creativity in the Offensive play calling. Lazor should be a breath of fresh air and don't be surprised if players like Tannehill, Lamar Miller, Egnew and Pouncey (when he's healthy) develop significantly under Lazor.
We could also see the lack of protection in the Offensive Line coached by another Sherman relative, Jim Turner, with zero NFL coaching experience. This season's upgrade in Benton may be much bigger than we expect. Maybe we can finally develop some O-line players? We live in hope.

Yeah I'm sure that dynamic definitely created some awkwardness. Glad thats over with. Really glad Ireland is gone. And glad Philbin gets another opportunity, hopefully he gets at least two full seasons with Lazor and Hickey.

I suggested that as well months ago. Without his mentors Sherman influence, Joe Philbin can be Joe...for better or for worse.
This year will be telling as to whether he will be back in 2015.
Just not hearing Go -Go GO will be a major upgrade. The defenses we played last year probably busted out laughing watching our game tapes.
