As of now, we are comfortably sitting at $16.7M under the cap. We are likely to sign a vet on the OL, maybe two, which will cost $3-5M. This cap situation, and next year's shows no problem in re-signing RT to a franchise deal if he deserves it.

Pollian has said that a team, with a franchise QB, can pay 9-10 players well, and needs lower priced guys and rookies to fill out the roster. Here's a look at our top ten cap hits this year.

Wallace- $17.2M
Ellerbe- $7.4M
Wake- $7.3M
Wheeler- $6.4M
Hartline- $6.2M
Moore- $5.5M
Jordan- $4.7M
Finnegen- $4.5M
Albert- $4.2M
Starks- $4.0M
Grimes- $4.0M

Tannehill is at $3.1M, and could easily be paid franchise type money with what we have left on the cap.

Next year, Wallace and Wheeler go down, Moore is gone, and the cap goes up to compensate for the salary increases on some players, and Tannehill is still easily affordable.

The problem we have here is our top ten paid players playing up to their contracts. There is only Wake, Hartline, Starks, and Grimes that I see, and would likely include Albert in this coming year. The rest have not been close, so far.

Dang Starks and Grimes are serious bargains

Yeah but they go up next year, while others go down, the cap goes up, and all we need to worry about in FA is Clay and Odrick. When the smoke clears, we can have the same team, and some left over on the cap.

My major concern is that we are not close, with a few exceptions, in getting our top ten paid player to play up to their contracts. IF they do not step up, we are likely looking to be shopping or cutting Ellerbe, Wheeler, and maybe Finnegen. Moore will be gone, and Jordan cannot be traded.

That's not much to be said when half of your top ten paid players have done so little.
