Just watching some of last years games getting ready for the new season.

I'm a Tannehill fan and believe he will perform well this year. However, can some one some where teach him to "sell" the fake in whatever play-action is the call. He really doesn't fool anyone at the moment, and when he breaks out without the ball, his hands are nearly by his side. He needs to sell the move and freeze the defence.

Opinions please.

RT has had some of the best QB Rating numbers off of play action in his young career. It was actually not used as much as should be.

Completely agree. The only problem with his play action fakes is his deep ball accuracy.

But comment on his faking the pass and handing off. Or faking the QB keeper, handing off and then breaking out. I don't think he sells these very well.

Honestly, I would say "most" qb not named P.Manning don't sell a fake well. He has been one of the few QBs that has consistently fooled a few people. He's fooled commentators, camera-guys and myself watching.

it's a lot easier to fool a defensive player on the field than it is to sell a fan who's point of view is provided by a camera above the field

I see the OP point. However, the advantage of play action holding the lb safties etc doesn't require a great fake.
It requires the first few steps of the rb and qb to look like run to hold lb, slow down pass rush etc.
I am not articulating what I am trying to say here I hope u catch my drift.
I think what I am trying to say is "Looking like a run well before the mesh point is enough to accomplish the goal of play action"

With you on that. Brady has the ability too. He hide the ball behind his back a few years a go and just stood there. It was crazy. Marino sucked at it.

:crazy: No one ever cared if a marino led team ran the ball

also requires at least some semblance of a running game. I actually think he is pretty good with his ball handling no complaints from me on that facet of his game.

Yeah play action is tough to pull of when you have no run game and can't block for longer than 2 seconds. If Tannehill gets some real looks off play action I think he'll make them count. He just needs to relax a little. Last year it was almost like when he finally got a look at a deep route that was open he got overly excited and launched it too far, which we all thought couldn't even happen. Well, it did. A lot.

The line really needs to be good enough to make him feel somewhat comfortable back there. I mean seriously. Last year was absolutely pathetic. There was entire games where Tannehill was on his back after nearly every play. He's tough but it's not horrible that he got rattled. Tom Brady would be playing terribly if he was getting rushed like Tannehill was last season. I fear for Tannehills life in week 2 if our line doesn't show up. The bills scare me. Their front 4 is scary as ****. Somebody on that o-line better step up and lead and bring some intensity because they just punished us last year.

Disagree with this. The longer you can keep the D on the wrong track, the better your play will work out. It pees me off when players don't sell it properly. It's not like its ha to do and you're sacrificing an advantage by not doing it. That and receivers not blocking tend to drive me nuts.

Tanny sold it well in his first season, iirc.

I always would laugh when Marino would gesture a handoff. I mean it was so poor, you couldn't even call it a fake. He just kind of waved the ball near an area where the running back was. But ...... his eyes always remained downfield and then BAM. He would rifle a 20 or 30 yard strike to a wideout. "Yeah that fake handoff play worked. We will keep that in the playbook". LMAO
