So even if the Dolphins can stop Garoppolo, who threw for 264 yards and posted a 106 rating in Sunday’s comeback win, they still must figure out a Patriots defense that has given them fits. That starts with better play from Tannehill, who has thrown seven interceptions in those four games and never posted a passer rating above 73.5 in a road game in New England.
But there must be improvement in three other areas that were problems against Seattle’s exceptional defense on Sunday:
▪ Pass protection: The Patriots have seven, six, four and five sacks against Tannehill in their past four games in New England, and Miami had more problems keeping Tannehill clean Sunday against Seattle’s stout defense.
The Seahawks sacked Tannehill four times and hit him eight times, with Branden Albert and Laremy Tunsil each allowing sacks.
According to Pro Football Focus, Tannehill was under pressure on 48.5 percent of his dropbacks — highest of any team in Week 1 entering Monday night’s double-header — and Tannehill completed only 28 percent of those passes when he was pressured.
PFF didn’t blame new center Anthony Steen, who was given Miami’s second-best grade on offense, after Tannehill.
Though the Patriots are without suspended linebacker Rob Ninkovich and traded linebacker Chandler Jones to Arizona during the offseason, the front seven is still stout, with ends Jabaal Sheard and Chris Long, tackles Alan Branch and Malcom Brown and high-end linebackers Jamie Collins and Dont’a Hightower.
▪ Run game: A running game that struggled in preseason (aside from Isaiah Pead) couldn’t do much against Seattle, which led the league in run defense last year. Arian Foster, who had 5 yards on seven carries in preseason, ran 13 times for 38 yards (a 2.9 average), though he also caught three passes for 62 yards.
Miami averaged 3.2 on the ground overall Sunday, worse than the 3.6 average Seattle relinquished last season.

Yeah....we still have a lot of work to do with our protection. Bobby Wagner was in our backfield a lot yesterday....

things I am not surprised to read for 200 alex

Keep in mind we played one of the better defenses in the league yesterday.
But ya, protection wasn't good most of the time.

Well, this shouldn't be surprising. We went up against the best defense that played ball yesterday* and we did it in the hardest venue in the league. Just like it's tough to read too much into our own DL because of Seattle's messed up OL situation, I also don't want to be too tough on our pass protection in this situation. Between the difficulty in communicating at the line and the quality of opponent, it wasn't surprising.

* Denver played Thursday.

We started the game with short passes but the defense was on it. We moved to intermediate passes but the WRs couldn't get any separation. On a few occasions Tannehill scrambled to buy time and still no one got open. It is what it is.

If we can cut his sacks / pressures in half this year I'd be happy.

Which were both to be expected.. Seattle is one of the best teams / defenses in the league. It was a good test. Maybe a healthy Dvp and Ajayi change things some? We need more time to gel as a team overall. Despite giving up a large amount of pressure, I think the line still played better at times than we have seen in ages

I thought the line played better too. They came with a lot of pressure in the A-gaps I believe...testing Tunsil and Bushrod who are new at the position. They did much better than Dallas Thomas or Billy Turner last year. Still, when you can bring that type of pressure and none of your receivers can get open quick enough it leads to a lot of QB pressures and sacks. But not every team is going to have that ability to cover that well.

I also think Tannehill was a bit slow on his post snap reads. Seattle looked like they were showing man and then dropped into zone not sure Tannehill saw that fast enough...I'm not sure the receivers recognized it either.

I wish Tannehill would have better recognition on 3rd downs. On the only TD drive of the game he seemed to get better on it but it only took the entire game

This was also half Tanne's fault. He still held the ball to long and does not move in the pocket

Not gonna lie, 48% is really freaking high.

but he still needs to make a play against it once and awhile.

Until he makes pass rushers pay for charging in full speed, they will keep coming in full speed. That's all there is to it.

He did make a huge play against it; a potentially game changing throw; a beautiful long pass!

Unfortunately one of our "protestors" probably still had his mind elsewhere and became the goat of the game. Otherwise, when all the receivers are covered, as noted before, where's he gonna throw downfield?
