Tannehill scored a 34 on the wonderlic

If you're talking about Frank Gore he has a learning disability and busted his butt to make grades. They wanted to put him in remedial classes at Coral Gables High School but he knew that meant he couldn't go to college so he refused and put in the extra time and work to get his grades high enough to attend UM. Let's not confuse Vontae Davis with Frank Gore who has an outstanding work ethic and proved that with effort you can achieve your goals.

I didn't know he had a learning disability, but that certainly does explain the way he speaks and why his replies to questions are what they are.

I don't think the way someone speaks is a reflection of how intelligent they are, or even that intelligence can be rated and measured by social standards accurately.

I think you are the one who is judging Vontae Davis too harshly based on the first week of training camp. Davis has shown what he can do in this league already.

There's nothing about the way vontae speaks that leads me to believe he's unintelligent. In fact if I had to choose between someone's wonderlich test and the way they speak as to determine their smarts, I'm going with the wonderlich. Like someone mentioned, there are many highly intelligent people who commit self destructive behavior.

So Tannehill scores a 34, and everyone is impressed and happy that he's a good deal smarter than Henne.

Vontae scores a 33, and obviously the test doesn't mean anything.

What would you name the elephant in the room . . . ?

No kidding. If you want to respect the test results which are measured with numbers then you have to treat all the numbers as they what they are. A 33 is a 33 whether Tom Brady scored it or Ryan mallet.

I'm judging him too harshly? Maybe you need to go back and look at my posts in this thread...I was defending him.

Cheating that goes on in the Big 10?

Obviously, Vontae had someone take the test for him, much like his SATs and most every college class he had at Illinois. It dosent take a genius to assume that. You have heard Vontae speak havent you? There is no way in hell he EARNED a 3.0 or higher GPA in college.

How the **** can you say something like this. Not only is it slander but as you say yourself it's an assumption. You know what my high school baseball coach told me about of assumptions. Don't make them because sooner or later they make an ASS/ out of U/ and ME. You obviously have no proof of your allegations and it's posts like this worthless drivel that drive people away from Finheaven.

How about looking at what's gonig on with Vontae from a different persepective? Like the guy is a) lazy and needs better motivation or b) his brother, who is mentally incompetent, just bludgened a guy to death with a hammer may be causing his poor play. Also if you haven't noticed Vontae has been playing great since Philbin got on his case, which leads me to believe Vontae is starting to understand Philbin is much different than the Meatball and he will have to earn his starting spot just like everyone else.

Stop taking the easy/most extreme pot shots. You are better than that WV.

Does anyone else think Vontae might be autistic??

trying to listen to Lamar Miller talk is way worse than Vontae I will tell you that

Ya, that's for sure. I kind of feel bad for Miller. It is painfully difficult to listen to.

Does anyone else think Vontae might be autistic??

I don't know about autistic. I have two cousins who are autistic. One who is severely affected and one who suffers from aspergers. I don't see that in Vontae. Just maybe a speech impediment or just plain nervousness during public speaking. To call someone unintelligent based solely on camera interviews and snippets of video footage is well, in it self unintelligent.

Vontae just needs to mature and realize that he needs to become a professional, with some people it just takes more time. The guy is 24 years old for christs sake. I could only imagine what some of the people on Finheaven would look/act like at 24 being a multimillionair. Hell, from personal experience I definitely had the feeling of self entitlement, didn't give a **** about what anyone thought of me when I was that age, and I did whatever I pleased without really thinking about the consequences. Can't say I'm seeing anything different.

Sometimes when people grow up without a Dad, ala Vernon and Vontae, who teaches them to be men they have a tendancy to take longer to mature. It doesn't surprise me Vernon didn't grow up professionally until Singeltary basically got in his face and called him out on his manhood. Hopefully our new coaching staff will have the same affect on Vontae and I believe it already is based on his last week of practice.

The other three QBs to score 34 on wonderlic...Craig Ochs (2005), Sam Keller (2008), Cory Pyles (2003).

We can only hope Tannehill has as successful a career as those guys had.

The wonderlic wasn't designed to be administered on athletes to begin with, especially football players. It has nothing to do with football IQ. You just can't draw any concrete conclusions from a player's wonderlic score.

Blaine Gabbert scored a 42 on the wonderlic and can't play football to save his life.

I believe coaches look for scores in a particular range as opposed to assuming the higher the score, the more intelligent you are... depending on the position. The closer a guy plays to the line of scrimmage, the more you may want to place a certain value on a wonderlic score.

The cornerback position isn't an analytical position. It's an instinctive position based on technique, reflex, athletic ability, and recovery speed. A high wonderlic score at the CB position is more of a red flag than a low one. It's an indication that you're subject to overthink instead of react.... which results in not playing the game to your full speed.

Football IQ and wonderlic score are two completely different measures.

Revis only scored a 10 on the wonderlic.

Read the bottom two paragraphs of this article carefully....

I think we can all agree....whether Tannehill scores a 4 or a 34, we just want him to be the last QB we have to worry about for the next 5-10 years.

means nothing to me. I really don't see the point in these.

Either you can play this game, or not
