Its simple. If RGIII, Luck and Weeden can start from Day 1, why can't Ryan Tannehill? The kid is smart, tough, athletic and he probably knows the system better than Matt Moore ever will. David Garrard is going to hold a clipboard, so its between Tannehill and Moore. This is the New NFL...the kid should start from the get go!

I agree completely. If he can't beat out Moore and Garrard, he shouldn't have been drafted #8 overall.

The fan base begged for a young QB to develop.
Now is your chance. The support is there with coaching.
Starting Moore sets us back.

Because Luck is about as sure thing as humanly possible, Weeden is going into his second pro-league(plus he hasnt been handed the starting job), and Griffen is a athletic freak that landed with a coaching staff that covets athletes at the quarterbacks.

Tannehill currently has the lead but that will quickly disappear as veterans learn the playbook(not even close to training camp). Id rather him wait on the bench while being ready then throw him in to early and shake his confidence. Even with the "new NFL" players bust.

If this turns into a Philip Rivers type situation, that would hardly be the worse thing in the world.

Because if Aaron Rodgers started from day 1 he may lumped in with such names as Couch, Carr, Smith, etc...

There is a long list of QBs that started before they were ready. Would they have been successful if given time to properly developed? One thing is for sure, Tannehill is not in the same class as Luck or RG3 right now so to base Tannehill playing on what the Colts and Redskins are doing is rather foolish imo.

Noooooooo let him sit a year and get use to the NFL speed, even if its against guys on the practice squad let him develop in to the QB that can win us some superbowls. Stop worrying about what the Colts an the Redskins are doing worry about your team and have some patience, because if you rush Ryan Tannehill out there before he's ready he'll either end up being another Henne or even worse Blaine Gabbert.

You have it wrong. Henne sat as a a rook. That guy was never developed properly.
Gotta' play the kid man.

Cast the man into the fire from the first snap.

How many 1000's of threads like this are we going to start here?

We have a QB (or two) that can win at the NFL level like Matt Moore. Who would start for the Colts? Or for the Redskins?

Before someone spouts off that Tannehill should start, think about waiting till training camp and preseason. He has yet to throw a pass against a NFL defense even in practice and you are making him the starter.

When the new Madden comes out you can start him, otherwise lets us leave those decisions to the people that know how to make them.

But thanks for adding your opinion and starting ANOTHER thread about Tannehill starting from day one.

P.S. Let him earn it, do not give him anything. Or he could end up being another Sanchez.

Normally, i'd think "merge" but LUG... this is the slowest time of the year, I don't care if people post the same thread 100x (which, insofar as tannehill starting day one, it's gonna reach that number) so long as they post about something they care about, and it's dolphins related.

Tannehill needs to earn it. Just giving this kid the starting position can stunt his growth. Even Marino didn't start till midway through his rookie season.

Good points, LUG. The biggest criticism of Tannehill was his inexperience since he only was a QB for 2 years in college. Guys like Luck and Griffin were QBs for 4 or 5 years in college (even if they sat out a year, they were still QBs while Tannehill was a WR for 2 years), so Tannehill is behind those other guys. That means he's still learning the nuances of being a QB as well as adjusting to the NFL. Sitting him for all or most of the 2012 season is NOT going to hurt him. Starting him from Day 1 could very well be a disaster both for Tannehill and the Fins.

Espn The Herd

FYI. Last night on ESPN I heard them say that Ryan Tannehill will be a guest on The Herd today. Not sure what time he will be on.

I think he should sit too for both developmental reasons and due to the suspicion that this team under new leadership and philosophies may not be that far behind the 6-3 team that closed out the season.

You'd likely disagree but IMO a strong case can be made that Moore was the 2nd best divisional QB through the last half of the season and there's some rationale in seeing how far this team can go from the outset before turning the season into "on job training". However, as to T/hill being not ready, there are extenuating circumstances. Unlike Luck and RG3, he has the valuable insight and perspective of being a successful WR, understanding timing and route running issues in general and within Sherman's system. Beyond that even while on temporary WR duty, he sat in on every QB meeting so he's not as much of a babe in the woods as it would seam.
