Tannehill Should Start Day 1

Because if Aaron Rodgers started from day 1 he may lumped in with such names as Couch, Carr, Smith, etc...

There is a long list of QBs that started before they were ready. Would they have been successful if given time to properly developed? One thing is for sure, Tannehill is not in the same class as Luck or RG3 right now so to base Tannehill playing on what the Colts and Redskins are doing is rather foolish imo.

You hit the nail on the head! I couldn't agree more. They need to make sure the offensive line is in place first and not to say that the other guys are sacrificial lambs, but Garrard and Moore have NFL experience and have seen what the pressure (pass rush, speed of the game, etc) can do. I would much rather not see the possible future of the franchise get his ass handed to him behind the swiss cheese OL and become a deer in headlights like the others mentioned above. Always though Carr got a huge bad rap and basically the guy got murdered behind the Texans garbage line.

And this is why coaches don't listen to the fans. I understand your desire to see him play. We've just got to be able to be patient as fans, and let it play out. There are so many unknowns this season- new coaches on both sides of the ball, new defense, new offense. I think the coaches will iron out those wrinkles first with a proven vet that can take the ups and downs, and THEN ease Tannehill into his position as the chosen one for our Dolphins. Should we start a new QB with all new pieces around him or stabilize the team first with the steady hand of a vet, and then let our newbie QB come in with SOME KIND of stability around him? I think the latter will serve RT and US well for the future.

No i dont think he should be the starter now at all but, if they let Moore start Ryan looses his job. I saw too much good from Moore last year that tells me with a coaching staff thats solid Moore takes us the dolphins to the playoffs.

Normally, i'd think "merge" but LUG... this is the slowest time of the year, I don't care if people post the same thread 100x (which, insofar as tannehill starting day one, it's gonna reach that number) so long as they post about something they care about, and it's dolphins related.

I'm with you bro. Really, after the season and before the draft is the slowest but this time is worse because mow we have rookies that we are dying to see in pads at least practicing. Right now all the rookies are going to be instant starters and half the UDFA's are going to make the team. We are all undefeated.

I just hate repeating myself in thread after thread. I think I'm going to simply start copying and pasting more. I might even use notebook and simply have a number of replies ready so I do not even have to find the other threads.

It is not just here, every fan site is this way which is why we are fans.(I call myself a Dolfan) Even the Jet's fans are now raving about how Tebow has "lunch with passion" which reminds me how excited some here were that Tannehill had dinner with Aikman.

I try not to even come here until OTA's start. I guess it is a hard time for everyone.

Fyi, you don't have to give your opinion in every thread.

I think we should sit him for atleast 8 games and let him learn the NFL..

QB's that did not play right away:
Brady - Did not play his first year (i know he was drafted pick 199, but he is the best and did sit for more than 16 games)
Roger - Did not play for a few years
Big Ben - played as a rook but not right away
Eli - same
Brett Favre

QB's that started right away:
Matt Ryan- can't win playoff game with a loaded roster, also doesnt put top qb stats with his roster.
Tim Couch
Mark Sanchez
David Carr

We havent had a coaching staff with a tack record of developing QB's since I can remember so now that we do lets let them turn Tanny into a pro bowl QB. Overall we should just trust what our coaches decide and be happy with it.

This decision does not have to be made about any other QB on any other team. This is about the here and now Miami Dolphins and the situation with our team and QBs this season.

The facts are that Matt Moore was the 12th rated QB in the NFL last season.

Ryan Tannehill only started at QB for a season and a half in college.

Moore is a seasoned NFL QB and NFL defenses tend to eat up rookie QBs.

We had a very poor pass protecting OL last season and we do not know for sure yet if it is any better.

I think this team could go 10-6 with Matt Moore starting and 4-12 with Tannehill starting.

Its simple. If RGIII, Luck and Weeden can start from Day 1, why can't Ryan Tannehill? The kid is smart, tough, athletic and he probably knows the system better than Matt Moore ever will. David Garrard is going to hold a clipboard, so its between Tannehill and Moore. This is the New NFL...the kid should start from the get go!

maybe it should read... Tannehill should have the 'opportunity' to start day 1...

Nothing wrong with competition... Let him fight for it and earn his reps... This franchise needs to begin to adopt the policy that NOTHING is granted and EVERYTHING must be earned.

How many 1000's of threads like this are we going to start here?

We have a QB (or two) that can win at the NFL level like Matt Moore. Who would start for the Colts? Or for the Redskins?

Before someone spouts off that Tannehill should start, think about waiting till training camp and preseason. He has yet to throw a pass against a NFL defense even in practice and you are making him the starter.

When the new Madden comes out you can start him, otherwise lets us leave those decisions to the people that know how to make them.

But thanks for adding your opinion and starting ANOTHER thread about Tannehill starting from day one.

P.S. Let him earn it, do not give him anything. Or he could end up being another Sanchez.
I agree, if handled properly he could be our guy for a long time. In the meantime we got Moore and Gerard who are both capable to steer the ship while Tanny develops.

I think he should sit too for both developmental reasons and due to the suspicion that this team under new leadership and philosophies may not be that far behind the 6-3 team that closed out the season.

You'd likely disagree but IMO a strong case can be made that Moore was the 2nd best divisional QB through the last half of the season and there's some rationale in seeing how far this team can go from the outset before turning the season into "on job training". However, as to T/hill being not ready, there are extenuating circumstances. Unlike Luck and RG3, he has the valuable insight and perspective of being a successful WR, understanding timing and route running issues in general and within Sherman's system. Beyond that even while on temporary WR duty, he sat in on every QB meeting so he's not as much of a babe in the woods as it would seam.

Actually, I like Moore. Like Fitzpatrick, he's worked his butt off to get an opportunity that usually only first rounders get, and he's shown that, at the very least, he's a decent starter. IMO, also like Fitzpatrick, if he's willing to be a backup, he'll be employed in the NFL at a nice salary into his forties. Competent backup QBs are almost as difficult to find as starters. Both Moore and Fitzpatrick, however, want to be starters, which is not only understandable, but also part of what makes them good: competitveness and desire overcomes a lot of their physical limitations. Can either one ever become "elite"? Probably not, but not a lot of first round draft picks actually become either.

Ideally, I would not let RT see the field even in garbage time. I would let him take snaps (in practice) w/ the 1st string O & D for seasoning.

I'll say this...if RT wins the QB competition - he should start. This is the New NFL. We don't have 3 years to groom the rookie like Green Bay had with Aaron Rodgers. He sat behind a Hall of Famer, not a Matt Moore. Troy Aikman started from Day 1. Dan Marino sat behind Woodley, who had recently led the Dolphins to a Superbowl. The reason Brady didn't start had to do with being a 6th round pick and and so he sat behind Drew Bledsoe. How did you like Cam Newton last year? Should he have sat a year or two to learn the nuances of the NFL? There are many opinions out there but I will trust Philbin when he says "the best player will start"... The meek do not inherit the earth in this mans NFL.

If he can win the starting position in camp, then I am all for it. But he should sit until he can beat out the other QBs on the roster.
