I think rookie QBs have to experience some adversity before you can really know what he is made of. They have to take a step back before really going forward. But to be honest I don't see that happening until next week, I think tonight you will see them give him plays that he is really comfortable with and have some success but no where near what we saw last week. Remember he is going on the road for the first time, and against number 1s for the first time. I want to see how comfortable he looks after the first sack, first pick, etc. Lets see if his footwork remains as smooth, and his timing stays as crisp, when facing adversity. It's going to be frustrating for him to have a good play called vs the defense only to have our inferior WRs not be able to get off the LOS, or not run solid routes. Don't expect him to look like Andrew Luck out there guys, that is not who he is YET. Don't expect too much, look for the positives and understand what he has to work with.
Our 2s at WR are pretty close to what other teams have at 2s and match up well with the bucs 2s on defense. But our 1s at WR are no where near the panthers 1s on defense. So one of three things are going to happen,
1. You are going to see him force the ball into areas and throw several interceptions.
2. Hold the ball too long waiting for our WRs to get open, and take several sacks.
3. Go through his progressions and understand no one is open and is able to get rid of the ball to a safe place. Throwing the ball in the stands may be his best play many times tonight. Understand that is a positive rather than a bad play.
My honest opinion is you will see a little of each, but best case scenario you will see his completion percentage take a big hit. The one thing I DON'T want to see is him throwing a pick and suddenly start looking to check it down every play. He had one of the top 5 highest YPA last week in the league. He was looking long first and then coming back closer. I want him to stay agressive rather than taking the easy way out. I can handle situations where he throws a decent ball that gives our WRs a chance to make a play, where the DBs outplay our WRs and get the pick. What I will be looking for is plays where he just doesn't account for someone and throws a pick right to a defensive player.
I can't wait for tonight, but don't expect too much. There WILL be growing pains!!
