Tannehill versus Wilson: Did we draft the right quarterback?

The height issue is so rare we may never see an example like Wilson again. Boomer thought he should be picked in the top 10 but I don't remember anyone else who pegged it perfectly.

I don't like the practice of picking guys very high who have never been great in the past. It's a losing proposition. It's like pretending that the stadium doesn't matter.

I liked him better than Griffin and thought he should have been a first rounder. Unfortunately I still had Weeden ahead of him :bobdole:. Oh, well. Here's a post of mine from a Gruden's QB camp thread (you posted in this one, too, Awsi):

The Russell Wilson edition of the QB camp is the most impressive I've seen, and I've seen all of them the last three years. Better than Luck, than Griffin, than Tebow or Mallett or McCoy or Gabbert or Ponder or Locker. It wasn't just his demeanor, which was impressive enough, it was the little things, the little comments. The details that revealed a depth of strategic knowledge and thinking.

Russell Wilson is the kind of prospect who's like a ****ing itch that won't go away. I can't help thinking that he might very well be -- when it's all said and done -- the 2nd best QB in this class after Luck. And I mean that sincerely. People make a huge deal about his size and I get that. But isn't height made an issue of because and only because it relates to performance? As in, the shorter you are, the less likely you are to achieve a certain level of performance?

But I think we all know that's not an absolute thing. It's a general rule. If a guy can achieve despite being shorter than ideal... he's still achieving, the way a short armed heavyweight like Mike Tyson or Rocky Marciano can still become champion of the world if they can, you know, knockout or otherwise beat to a pulp everyone who gets in their way.

He's my fourth QB in this draft, I know that. I'd MUCH rather have him than guys like Cousins or Foles or Osweiler. The things that stand in the way of those guys becoming top pros are, to me, much more daunting than Wilson's height.

I give myself some credit but ultimately not all that much. Like a lot of people I saw it but I didn't trust it fully.

Are you serious? You're saying it's unreasonable to hope that a 1st round QB performs as well as a 3rd round QB?

I think it's fair to say that the teams that passed on Wilson are kicking themselves.

Absolutely. But if the Seahawks knew he was THAT good, they would never have waited till the 3rd round.

So...

Lets be honest Wilson is better right now .

But lets also be honest if u think back to that moment when the Fins were on the clock picking 8th if we had taken a 5'10 QB projected 3rd rounder we would have freaked out. If they had passed on a QB and actually taken wilson in he 2nd or 3rd like Beck we would have freaked out. We should have drafted Tom Brady in the 5th round and Josh Gordon instead of Jonathan Martin too. #Hindsight
