Just think what those numbers would be like if he could hit the wide open deep throws. We would be in the playoffs.

your wrong...and u got nothing to back up your claim that newtons better. I think you just like running qbs.
well I'm glad that's your opinion. the only way that becomes a fact is 10 -15 years down the road. probably sooner, when cam no longer runs as fast as he does now and has to become more of pocket passer. something only McNabb and Cunningham managed to do after their speed was robbed due to age.

I'm watching sCam play right now and he looks terrible, the only pass he can complete are rb and wr screens. He still seems to lock on to his first option in this his third year in the league. I can't deny he is the size of a small automobile and he's hard to get down weather he's in the pocket or scrambling. If he was Russel Wilson's size he'd be f'ed in the A.
That limb was a twig and it's laying splintered on the ground. But a good laugh, none the less.
Thats the killer thing, for the year its been sub-par o-line play and a very sub-par running game and Tannehill has been solid nonetheless. I don't think Miami fans understand what it takes for a QB to grow. I mean it was Griese, Marino, and then years of retreads and projects. This first round QB and developing him literally is new to us MIami fans. Our barometer is instant success ala Marino, but thats just not all that realistic.

What's interesting to me is that he completes 62% and he's still in the bottom half of the league... just a trip how things have changed from a decade ago when 62% was elite level completion percentage.
No. This is Newton's third year in the league. He is not a better passer than Tannehill and until I see a trend in the other direction, I will always take the more accomplished passer.

I was pleased to read about Tanny being top 10 in TD's and some other categories. But a lot of that is about being prolific. Along with that productivity is a high rate of interceptions. When I scanned down the page looking for QB rating, which is very important, I saw that he's 22nd. That's not quite where we want to be, so next year he's got some work to do. Who knows, last year he finished his season out strong, so maybe his QB rating will rise over the next few games. Right now, you show Wilson with 108.5, so I don't buy the argument that he's better than Wilson...or even Luck.

Guys, Tannehill is having a very decent season, so let's put that away and really push the topic at hand. All you need to look at to understand where Shouright is coming from is under the advanced passing category at pro-football-reference.com.

I want to see Y/A improve next season. All the talk about RT17 protecting the football better is nice, but if he improves Y/A then he's likely to improve in total yards and TDs. You also have to consider how that will impact the rest of his game. While Tannehill is likely to continue to make some blunders, he may make fewer of them as a result of being in more first down scenarios. Teams are also likely to cut back the rush when Y/A is higher. Higher Y/A is not a silver bullet, but it certainly is a measure of QB success. Right now, RT17's Y/A+ is pretty close to average if not a tad below.

And I'd say average is the minimum level at which to expect to be competitive in the NFL, given normal-range performance in other areas of the team.
What I'd like to see (eventually) is above-average, at about the 84th percentile or better.
