Does that mean you would've been comfortable with Moore starting at QB this year? Or you think another QB in this draft class that would've been available to the Fins had just as much potential as Tanny does?

Incidently, the definition of a "Franchise Quarterback" is a subjective term......your definition may not be mine, and there is no set in granite definition so arguing over that term is pointless.

For the record, I believe a franchise quarterback to be someone you can build the foreseable future of franchise around.
Someone with a very high level of skill and accuracy, a playmaker who possesses poise, leadership and the ability perform in the clutch.

I have a high degree of belief that Ryan Tannehill will be exactly that.

Wow.....one and a half quarter of preseason game 1 football and you already can make such a definitive statement. Thats why this board can be a bit unbearable this time of year. The masses of overreactionary assessments going either way make it difficult to actually find the worthwhile posts. I guess Russell Wilson can be tagged the next franchise qb in seattle.

Listen, I hope Tanny pans out as much as anyone and his limited showing gives signs of optimism but the knee jerking that goes on here can be quite ridiculous. I think i remember that Henne after his first few starts had one of the highest qb ratings ever for a first time starter over his first few games. Howabout how when a majority were claiming Ryan Mallett was the next great NE qb and a futrue probowler after his first preseason game. This board went complete emo after that game. I remember after Brian Grieses first start here how the masses were claiming definitively how we had our franchise qb of the future and were set for the next ten years at the position. God forbid Tanny has an off quarter. I cant imagine the reactionaries feasting off of that.

I would've been fine with Matt Moore this year because Miami isn't going to win anything anyway. I think Miami had a choice of 3 or 4 other developmental quarterbacks that they could've taken instead of trading up for Lamar Miller, for example. But probably not with the potential of Ryan Tannehill, and obviously not with the familiarity of Sherman's offense.

I think Tannehill was the right pick for the very reason that we're all witnessing here, and made that clear when they picked him. He's already got the fanbase revived and bozo's running around chirping about how he's a franchise quarterback for doing nothing more than going out and not looking like a complete disaster against 3rd stringers in a pre-season game.

Again, I would've passed on him and taken a great linebacker. I couldn't have taken Tannehill in the top 10 based on my evaluation. Not anybody else's.

However, I also said that I didn't think Tannehill was as big of a reach in the top 10 as Robert Griffin was. The beauty is that we get to find out. But it's going to be a while before we do.

Valid point. I think with the new rookie wage scale, it makes it easier to reach for players with high risk high reward type because the risk isnt that high anymore, add to that the PR standpoint of this franchise, the pick was a no brainer IMO. Like you said we shall see, and although his outing in the 1st PS game doesnt set anything in stone, it does look good to this point.
 
My opinion, only, but I honestly feel that Tannehill was a fantastic draft. Go on YouTube and watch the 1983 draft. Those hosting the draft were baffled at the Fins decision to draft Marino at QB. I believe that Tannehill is a diamond in the rough.

He looked good in his first pre-season game. The decisiveness was there which is what you want to see at this stage considering he knows the concepts and is familiar with the structure. He didn't double-clutch a single pass in 21 attempts.

He's not reading coverages yet. He's throwing to 'grass' and executing the passing concepts that he's familiar with. He's reading box defenders and the coaches want to see him get the offense into the right plays first and foremost beginning at the line of scrimmage. Game management.

All I'm saying is there's so much more to evaluate that it's impossible to draw "franchise" conclusions at this point. I doubt you'll hear Coach Philbin or Coach Sherman tossing that word around to each other. They know there's a long ways to go.

I'm interested in the development process and the manner in which quarterbacks are brought along. I don't expect everyone to see it that way. It's more fun to be a fan.

Dealing with pressure and being consistent week in and week out with all the various looks he's going to see is where it's at. Obviously we're quite a ways away from that right now.

He's not our QB for the next 10 years. Let's all be realistic, he's our quarterback for the next 15 years.
 
Hopefully Tannehill will be the franchise guy for the next ten years. He appears to be getting better every week, and I just love how he never seems to get rattled. He has the same expression no matter what the score. I loved Dan Marino, but I think at times he got a little too fired up screaming at receivers for the drops. :lol:
