I'm rewatching the game now and I'm at the point where Miami is up 38-7 in the 3rd quarter with 2:36 left. The screen pass from Tannehill to Daniel Thomas at the 16. Miami comes out in a trips-left formation with Wallace, Sims, and Hoskins. Tannehill fakes the pass to Wallace while Hoskins and Sims block the Raiders DB. Keep in mind this is on the other side of the field.

Thomas catches the pass at the 18 yd line at which point Sims and Hoskins have the DB, on the other side of the field, blocked at the 11. There was literally no chance this DB runs over to even be near Thomas even if he wasn't being blocked.

A complete **** call IMO. Had the PI not been called it would've appeased those here who criticize Tannehill for only 2 TD passes and it also would appease those who wanted 40+ pts scored b/c Miami would've been up 45-7 had the play been successful.

what would it have proved by throwing a TD in garbage time other than to inflate #s and allow people that don't really watch the game closely to think he was better than he was? you won the game, he played well so who cares about a garbage time TD called back?

I thought it was a penalty and a good call. Its a slow developing play and Sims acted too soon. Cant block downfield on a pass play.

if he was blocking prior to the ball being released it is a penalty...so look to see if that's the case...still that call is rarely made...philbin threw up his hands in disgust...

Who cares? QB had a great game, and needs to continue playing great. If he continues playing like that, nobody is going to care if he has a touchdown pass called back in a blowout win.

That sucked. I wanted to drop 45 points just once. Bottom line is Sims still isn't good enough. His blocking was poor most of the game and the penalty hurt.

Did anyone notice the play where Wallace lined up out wide right with Sims and Clay in front to block for him? Neither "TE" could block their man and both tackled Wallace. Sad. We need TE's that can both catch passes and block ... otherwise just put in another WR.

That's one of those calls that's technically correct but is called so infrequently. I believe the block has to be within 3 yards.

I agree weak call. I was joking during the game that the ref had the under 42 on the Fins.

Some of us will care when we have to read about how Tannehill isn't a franchise QB because he hasn't scored over 40 in a game. Just like we already hear that he still can't hit the deep pass.

It would have been nice to get the TD, but the penalty had no impact on the outcome of the game. What is your definition of 'hurt'?

How about Tannehill sliding up the pocket and making a nice throw earlier in the game? I think I can count on one hand how many times he's down that climb the pocket, like Rivers, and make a nice throw. Seemed like his footwork was much better this game. Two weeks to work on it more and make it even more second nature, then take on a very tough 12 games to make a playoff push. If we can be as good as we all hope tough schedules are exactly what you want, win and you are as good as you want to be.

I haven't had a chance to go back and watch his blocking, but he did make a spectacular TD catch that non of our other receivers would have made. He's definitely physically good enough, but he needs to play smarter for sure.

I don't care about those people, to be honest. We have some folks here who argue that Geno Smith is a better QB. I know that they don't really believe that, but still, good grief.

That play is a great example why stats can be misleading. If you overweight your analysis to stats, then you won't get a true picture by far.

Answer your own questions by re-reading my last point. Or don't. I'm not close to giving a ****.

I imagine he's saying that a screen turned TD doesn't do much for evaluating a QB's performance, much less one in garbage time. And anyone who wouldn't make a distinction between a well thrown TD pass and a gimme shouldn't be someone whose opinion you give a second thought to anyway.
