Tannenbaum wanted Quinn, Ross wanted to keep Philbin

Numerous rival executives anticipate Ross attempting to make a splashy move for an established head coach -- he's missed out on Jeff Fisher, Jon Gruden and Jim Harbaugh in the past -- and expect the Dolphins to make inquiries this offseason as to the possible availability, via trade, of Saints coach Sean Payton. The influence of Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells remains significant within Miami's organization and Payton is one of his prized pupils. Payton has two years remaining on his deal, however.

The Dolphins coaching job has not been very attractive to top coaches during Ross's tenure, and with attendance and market share also an issue for the Dolphins, if Miami ends up hiring an inexperienced head coach it likely won't be for lack of trying to land a big fish.

Always nice to be reminded.....

Damnit people when are we gonna learn not to listen to Jason LaConfora?!? And Daytona makes a good point. Timeline doesn't add up unless JLC is saying that when Tannenbaum was an advisor he advised of his client.

It doesn't make any sense and I would say LaCanfora is making stuff up off the top of his head again. Think about it: Tannenbaum weaseled his way into the organization about two years ago as a consultant. If he was at odds with Ross' choices and didn't at least pretend to like Philbin then he probably wouldn't have been promoted to whatever his title is now. I don't believe he was ever at odds with Ross over anything, he's a kiss ass.

So Tannenbaum was right…Once again, slowly, but surely, this team is close to getting things right. It just should have started LAST YEAR.

Here is my defense of Ross…he is loyal to a fault with Joe, why wouldn't the next coach love that trait in the owner esp if he got a big contract?

Don't think it matters. Fact is Ross has been a disaster in hiring coaches. You will never find an elite coach who will allow anowner to dictate who his assistans are. Most don't even want you to select his players. If anyone is being judged on his wins and losses he should pick his staff. Period. In many ways Ross is worse than Jerry Jones. Major league micro-manager, who thinks his real estate success translates to football. Obviously it doesn't. At least Jerry Jones PLAYED football. Ross is a terrible owner who doesn't understand his own weaknesses. We will never get a first class coach until he quits meddling and let his FO do their job.

That's a shame.. but considering that Tannenbaum played a big part in the hiring of Mangini, and hired Rex, 2 coaches kicked to the curb.. while preliminary (key word) appearances would indicate he 's right in this case, I attribute it to the "Blind Squirrel occasionally finding a nut" syndrome.

Not a bad name, on the other hand would have let Tannenbaum get his talons deeper into the team
