Living in Orlando, I don't get to see as many games in person as I would like, so last night was a treat.

Unfortunately, seeing the game live from 15 rows up on the 50 yard line, I witnessed numerous plays where Tannehill missed completely wide open recievers. Devante Parker burnt his coverage a few times, 2 of which were one on one and he would have scored if Tanny had found him. I also saw him throw the ball short on 3rd down (which is nothing new), when he could of thrown to an open reciever behind the 1st down marker.

Not sure if this dink and dunk stuff is a product of Gase's offense or if I simply never noticed these missed opps from my couch, but I want to see some throws downfield......specifically jump balls to Devante, especially when he has one on one coverage.

Should we quickly trade him for a QB that won't miss those opportunities OP?

Lets discuss Tannehill's missed opportunities:

And his numbers (including a 67.5 passer rating) would have been even better if Jordan Cameron had caught two catchable balls, if Jarvis Landry hadn’t dropped a ball he usually catches and if DeVante Parker had snagged another catchable pass for what should have been a 20-plus yard gain.

Watch every NFL game you can. EVERY QB misses open receivers. Does Tannehill not see them more than other QBs? No idea. I don't expect a perfect QB, I expect a QB who can move the chains.

If true it's unacceptable. If it's kinda true, it's unacceptable. If it's untrue completely, that's unacceptable.

Peeps, I'm a big Tanny fan and have supported him since he was drafted. I'm not throwing in the towel, just making an observation as a fan from the stands instead of the couch. You can't see everything when you watch it on tv.

If all QB's miss throws, so be it. If I should accept check downs on 3rd down, I will. My apologies for wanting to capitalize on every opportunity........like a winner.

We all want to win and all would prefer long completions to checkdowns. And I'm not saying you're wrong in your observations. But you'll have to tolerate my statistical background. Certainly Tannehill didn't see open receivers, but without knowing how often the average QB misses receivers (there are legitimate reasons), I can't tell if Tannehill is outside the norm or not. No apology needed - those opportunities have to be seized.

Well here's the thing. You can't say it was a missed opportunity, or that he didn't see something happen. It very well could be the design of the play has him looking elsewhere, or his presnap read has him looking elsewhere. Dude only has one set of eyes. If your third read comes open as you're still working reads 1-2, you're going to miss him. It's just how it is. Every QB does this. He may even be instructed to throw the ball a certain way because it's a preseason game. The reality is no one knows if he's missing these opportunities because he's bad or if it's by design.

3 times in the first half, I saw him throw behind the 1st down marker on 3rd down. In 2 cases, I think I recall it was well behind the marker.

I don't understand the point of that. It's just giving up on a series. You might as well throw a low percentage ball deep but away from the coverage and see if the receiver can make something out of it. It's no less likely to come off than a 3 yard shakedown to a RB with his back to the line 4 yards off the marker, plus you get chunk yardage. Plus you give the offence a huge lift. Plus the fans finally get off your back about your innate over conservatism....

I thought he played well. I enjoyed watching the series he was in more than I can remember for a long time. But he prematurely shut down three series, imo.

Someone will probably nitpick me whether it was really 2 or 3 or 4, but the point stands.
