Cool article on JT, read what Saban says about him. I am stoked to see him collapse offenses this year. I am optimistic we can make the playoffs on defense alone, no one will be ready for Saban this year. THe D will be so fresh people won't have any solutions. Lets Go FINS!!

HYDE: Rein-venting Jason Taylor is fun

3-4 linebacker duty makes him 'like Slash now'

[font=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica]He's having fun again.

"A blast," Jason Taylor says.

Let's start right there. If you've come to know Taylor at all these past eight Dolphins seasons, you don't need to be told what these last few years have been like for him.

This is a player who through last year's 4-12 season placed an index card with the word Win by his bedside lamp so it was what he saw last at night and first in the morning; who has the franchise record for sacks at defensive end and, like Tiger Woods reinventing his swing, was asked to change roles; and who even heard reports he'd be changing teams until cruising the Bahamas in January on his 99-foot yacht (for No. 99, get it?) he had a ship-to-shore talk with new coach Nick Saban.

He remembers it going like this:

Taylor: "You're the chief. I'm just an Indian. I'll do whatever you want."

Saban: "I want you to be a part of this."

When playing as Taylor in Madden 2005, I always selected him, pulled him off the line of scrimmage, shifted the DL over toward the empty spot, and shifted the linebackers over the opposite way before each play in poor imitation of the 3-4 technique but with the ability to have Taylor be a OLB, whereas you're not allowed to stick him there in the depth chart.

Result? 42 sacks in one season with Jason Taylor. 5 minute quarters too.

That article more then any other makes me so damn excited for the 11th I don't think I can contain myself...

I am ready for some DAMN football!!!!!

LoL that was great Jeep, i didn't see it coming. Anyways great article. It sucks to think about how we've wasted most of his career. I hope to see him return to everyone's top DE/LB in the league.

Sign another RE and change his position to LOLB. He drops to an 85, but it works.

Oh yeah. Love this article. Gets me pumped for opening day!

There were many posters arguing that it would be a mistake to move JT to LB even part time. This was during the 3-4 v. 4-3 arguments. They said it was stupid to move an all-pro out of position. Those of us on the other side said giving a great athlete the freedom to make more plays would make him a better player. It's pretty clear now which side Saban agrees with.

If you think about it, Wannstedt may have singlehandedly changed the progression of Jason Taylor's CAREER in the NFL. Taylor is a very non-traditional player who was stuck in a very traditional role (lining up opposite the LT every play) in Wannstedt's defense. That's like making Michael Vick a pure pocket passer. Where would Taylor be right now had he spent his entire career in Saban's D?

Any thoughts on this move and career longevity? Extend career some due to not lining up/battling monster LT every play? Shorten it some because he has to run all over the field making plays? No difference?

I don't think running is gonna shorten someones career as fast as getting hit by not only one, but two linemen on every down.

If he isn't the sack leader in the AFC this year I'll be upset. Things look promising though. Hopefully he'll be in Canton in like 10 years (dependingon when he retires).

Well, he's definately a lock for the hall if he can dominate Madden like that. :goof:
